So, I see this a lot, and I know everyone doesn't agree about the semantics and I'm probably mowing over old ground.... but, if you're watching an episode and decide to scan the comments before you watch the episode, what do you expect to see? Do you want to see people talking about the weather, or maybe what they wore that day? Maybe a discussion on what they had for dinner?

No, no, and no! If people are making comments on a current episode they are likely talking about that current episode! Why oh why would you go down to read the comments and then complain??

I really do get spoiler tagging comments that reveal information that would ruin future episodes, but I really have no sympathy for those that can't wait for a few seconds for the episode to load and go ahead and read the comments before watching an episode. Of course people want to talk about what they just saw.... Why is this even an argument?

Essentially, I'm asking "What are spoiler tags good for?" I think it's for ruining future or unwatched episodes content but it seems a lot of folks don't agree. I just find it very annoying when an OP talks about a current episode and someone not only complains but reports them. What's the consensus on use? You know where I stand!

Wow, nothing? I'm going to do the disrespectful thing and post in my on post... No one wants to talk about this at all? I've been up voted and down voted enough to know that people have feelings about this topic. Let those opinions loose! I don't mind being hated as long as people have a good reason. Please post your reason and I'll gladly respond when I have time. I welcome all arguments... Just would like to see a valid argument against the position I've taken...

This is a me getting drunk topic. Guess it's a real pet peeve of mine when I'm slightly to moderately inebriated... I just got pissed the other day when someone reported a comment (not mine) for being a spoiler when it was about a current episode. And I keep seeing people complaining about comments about the current episode spoiling it for them before they watch the actual episode on lots of anime. I advocated for a comment system over on Funimation to which other people said it just causes problems. I can see why now.

I agree with you completely Trelac, I like how you described it with the weather bit ^.^ Hopefully more people will read this and less complaints about current-episode comments being spoilers end up happening. But I'm more concerned that there is no way to mark an actual spoiler as such, I've seen big spoilers that I would like to hide, if only it were possible.
