It feels awkward to say this but I imagine myself being 40 something and still watching anime... I like it now and I consider myself an adult already, I don't see why I wouldn't like it when I'm 40, 50, 60 and so on...

I've always felt like there's a stigma around watching stuff like anime, like it's not something I tell everyone about because most people just don't get it. I feel like that stigma will grow larger as I grow older and that just means that anime for me will always be nothing more than a guilty pleasure... but hey, there are worse guilty pleasures to have right? That's how I justify it.

That's the thing, as you get older, you don't have to justify anything... simply by getting to live another year, even another day, justification becomes meaningless. In a relationship, that does become a bit dicey, unless you're with someone who "gets you", otherwise prepare to either stand your ground and likely be single, or mea culpa and miss out on something you enjoy. Me personally, if a woman I'm with won't allow it, she can move on and not look back.

The question you have to ask yourself is, what do YOU like, regardless of your age. I'm officially an old fart now, but I still love anime, heavy fist pumping music, and other things many of my peers may deem to be a sign of immaturity... Idgaf what others say, if I find something that brings me even momentary joy, I indulge... I suggest to anyone to do the same while you still have breath in you.

I won't call you old. Not at all. Actually, I remember hearing that when an individual hits 50 they've only lived around 1/3 of their lifespan. Maybe it's really 2/3, not sure. Given how everything is now-a-days, 1/3 doesn't sound too far fetched to me, though.

As for the question the OP asked, it's a simple answer that others have already posted.

You're never too old.

There's no such thing as too old for anime. That's what I love about anime there's no age discrimination because it appeals to all. I'm 28 and I still watch it and dont care who knows it. Anime is not like American cartoons. They're two separate things and if anyone characterizes it as a cartoon I'm instantly jumping down their throat.

That's not possible, usually what you like when you are younger, morphs into something similar or stays the same as you get older. I liked anime when I was younger, then I liked D&D in my 20s, then video games in my 30s, now its back to anime....

You are never too old for this art form. There are so many varieties and as I grow I only appreciate it more.

Honestly, if you enjoy anime, age doesn't matter.

Do you guys think we will ever grow out of anime? Or if not grow out, do you think our personalities will change to a certain point where the anime we watch no longer relates to us? (for example: by age 28 I wouldn't be as interested in mecha school animes like "infinite stratos")

This is likely to be your biggest issue... A thread was up a while back about it but as you get older the school life or kid/ young adult anime is gonna start to tire you out and make you wish for something more.... Something focused towards adult characters..

I'll never grow out of it. Japanese writing is so much more engaging than western television. I too was getting burned out on school stuff, but that's not all that's out there.

Although, I'm tired of love triangles or harems where the protagonist never chooses. I want something more conclusive...

Age doesn't matter when it applies to the things you love. I'm drawn to anime and other things. And that's not going to change the only thing that did change was the lack of time I have to watch what I like, to play video games, to read anime and time for myself and I have no waifu or kids yet.

I'm fifty years old, and I watch anime with my wife*, and we're both going to Sakura Con in a few weeks. You're never to old, and it's not a solitary pursuit.

* Unless she wants to watch one of her horror/supernatural anime... then she watches in the living room and I head to my computer room and watch what I want to on the computer.

33 and I've been watching anime for over 25 years now, I can honestly say I won't ever get tired of it....in fact I rarely watch anything but anime anymore, most shows on network TV just don't do anything for me.

I'm mostly the same way with regards to watching TV. There are only 5 channels that I watch, which is mostly car related channels, and I tend to watch them, only when auto racing is going on. During the week, I don't watch anything on network TV, and I'm either watching anime, or on the internet.

If I do watch TV during the week. It's mostly because it's on for my 3 year old niece, so she can watch My Little Pony. Which, I find myself watching it too with her.
