On my classics list (AKA my top favorite anime)

Oh god this can go on forever. But I think I'll stop here. Note: this doesn't include Hayao Miyazaki movies as they are 9999/10, but not series. Crap. Now I think I'm going to rewatch some of the ones I've listed. starting with Hikaru no Go again.

A few timeless classics...

- The Star of Cottonland

- Crest of the Stars/Banner of the Stars
- Natsuki Crisis
- Pita-Ten

Never heard/seen any of them....i have seen all animes posted here except the ones from your post...O.o I will take a look at them because the picture looks good (old anime is better for me because the stories are better most of the time =D )

ok...except the second one...that's a hentai. Maybe a classic among adult viewers....

Yeah, you'll want to skip Urotsukidōji. The others are just personal favorites. Out of all of them, I would check out Crest of the Stars/Banner of the Stars . It's a brilliant space opera style SciFi. The image I posted is from that series.

The others are less important and I wouldn't bother with them.

I will check it out, that one caught my attention because it reminded me of Record of Lodoss war...one of my favorites. :)

I'm thinking Death Note would be a timeless classic.

Imo, definitely Ghost in the Shell. The movies are still coming out and I've seen fans talk about the show till this day. Shame, I haven't read the manga yet...should get to that soon.

Steins;Gate, Death Note, Fooly Cooly.

It seems like it's required to have English Dubs for it to become a timeless classic; Death Note and Fooly Cooly already have dubs, and Steins;Gate will definitely get them in the future, the producers would be stupid not to create them. I don't think I've ever encountered a classic show that didn't have dubs, to be honest.

Bakemonogatari.
Berserk (TV).
Casshern Sins.
Cowboy Bebop.
Death Note.
Durarara!!.
Eden of the East.
Ghost in the Shell.
+ GitS: SAC.
+ GitS: SAC 2nd GiG.
+ GitS: Innocence.
+ GitS: Solid State Society.
Haibane Renmei.
Hellsing Ultimate.
Kara no Kyoukai.
Kino's Journey.
Kyousougiga.
Legend of the Galactic Heroes.
Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica.
The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi.
+ The Disappearance of Suzumiya Haruhi.
Monster.
Neon Genesis Evangelion.
+ End of Evangelion.
Perfect Blue.
Serial Experiments Lain.
Sword of the Stranger.
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.
Texhnolyze.
Wolf Children.

Only if America is the only place allowed to have classics.

Although it's a good point that what we think are classics and what Japan thinks are classics could be very different.

Edit: However, Legend of the Galactic Heroes will never be dubbed but it is still THE classic.

For me, the four that I think of as timeless classics are Cowboy Bebop, Fullmetal Alchemist, Monster, and Kino's Journey. First is simply too damn awesome, and second is just kind of relaxing and interesting.

Also, to be considered a timeless classic for me requires that it A. Is damn good in general. B. Have memorable moments, and C. Be great rewatchable, preferably on a level comparable to the original Die Hard, but if not there, it needs to be worth watching at least twice.

As far as more recent anime that might be timeless, I'm actually going to skip over SOA and AOT and say the new HxH might be up there. One Piece might be too, though when talking about the "big three" I think someone's gonna be against whatever I say. As far as less Shonen-y things, I'm not sure since I haven't been watching too many of them recently.

how many people here can actually even name a 30 year old anime that isn't miyazaki and din't air for more than 7+ years, the earliest ones I start to even think about are around 20 years old. Hell even just from when I started watching anime to now a lot of "insanely popular" anime are now pretty much dead now. I can name 30 year old anime but I haven't seen it. I still do think there will be a few, but they only happen like once every 5-10 years. Some people are naming shows that did horrid in sales, but are just seen as good. Those shows have pretty much never been even poplar. people will be talking about naruto many years from now, shit or not, it has been very popular for a very long time. Anything very poplar will last a long time, how good it was doesn't do a whole lot it how often people remember and how many that counts. Cowboy beebop is in there, its been around for enough time that it should be dead but its isn't, same with neon genesis and even trigun, trigun didn't do that well in japan as far as I know so it may not be. The thing about neon genesis is there have been recent movies, sayin hey this is still alive. Its hard to tell if something is dead or not too. Just cause some people are talking about it doesn't mean its alive.
