As long as it's relatable to the bearer of the name and it has a mini back story to it, nicknames sound better.
(e.g., Fruit loops = Howard Wolowitz = Mom yelled if he wanted fruit loops for breakfast while he was making a com conversation with a fellow astronaut. He wanted to be nicknamed Rocket Man, but, hey, his fellow astronauts are the ones giving the nicknames.)

I actually like that astronaut nickname system. You don't choose your nickname, your fellow colleagues are the ones choosing for you based on [odd] situations.

I have ZERO opinion on this and I've had the nickname Gravy for about 17 years now. It just gets blanked by your brain after a while. Had some funny looks in a public place though lol

As a term of endearment, they can be pleasant. When forced, not so much.

Mine is shmalls.

It honestly depends. For example I hate when my aunt calls me "Iggy" or my friend calls me "Shmee".
But it's okay when my friends (and their parents) call me "Panda".
I also get called Sae and Nikki and I don't mind being called either
of those.
It really depends on my mood and the day.

I think nicknames are neat. Of lot of my friends go by nicknames simply because we had too many people with the same name. I was never given a nickname though, so I can't say how it would feel to have one. I guess it's easy to like them when you're always on the other side of the fence.

Household nickname is Dada , lol

Depending on how long I've known a friend its either Los, Noso, or Rossi

My kids at my summer camp call me, Jesus...tried to break them out of it but to no avail. makes for some awkward moments when kids are getting picked up and are saying good-bye to me, "Byeeeee Jezuz". Almost gotten fired over it...it's not like I told them to start calling me that...

My real name is a pain to say to most people, so I guess they can't helped.
I also feel like changing my name to one of my nicknames anyways, so not much of a problem to me.

Nicknames: Yuri, Yuki.

I have some nicknames. In high school, my friend used to call me Moo Moo because I used to always buy chocolate milk. That nickname was kind of embarrassing. My little sister used to call me Wowen when she was a baby because she couldn't say my name. My real name is Lauren.
