Last chapter published in Japan was 340, published in Japan just over 2 years ago and collected in volume 32 (just released in America by Viz in the last couple days). Chapter 339 honestly looks like a pretty decent place for the series to end, with 340 as a possible tease for what could come after if Togashi ever comes back to it - basically, I don't think we'll be left hanging on anything; I'd estimate that the anime will wrap up the remaining manga by the end of the Summer season.

FWIW I tend to believe the claims that Togashi goes on these extended hiatuses due to health concerns; if you've seen the weekly chapters when he's come back from a hiatus they're super-rough, but they get cleaned up for the collections. People have speculated Togashi had a stroke or something like that a number of years ago - that could certainly explain why he could only work on the manga intermittently and with great difficulty even though chapter 340 hints he'd like to do more.

i would like To hear hes been working on it slowly for the two years when he can and has stuff ready to go. That way he wouldnt of had to keep a schedule but could of gotten it done as he wanted. They could surprise us by having a whole arc ready almost and he doesnt have to worry about working on it as it comes out if the health concerns are there.

Why would you want a fake ending when you could be patient and wait for a completed masterpiece

I assume he means an ending which is not written by Togashi or where he is not involved at all. To be honest I would not want that too.
Also, Togashi work(ed)(too soon?) on his chapters alone, and not in a team like it is usually done. The only one helping him is his wife. Must be hard writing and drawing an anime with no team.

I wouldn't know, I'm not a manga reader. This just happened to be under the trending popular forum topics.

Togashi could already stop the manga, because of the money he makes and his wife (creator of Sailor Moon), but he just started a new arc with the Dark Continent, but most likely the anime will soon stop in a couple months, because it will be caught up with the manga, if he's still on hiatus

does someone who constantly goes on long hiatuses really have respect for his fans? He's been "sick" , has had "family" , etc, stuff that I'm sure no other mangaka has had to deal with. /cough

I don't think he really cares about his fanbase as long as he's making bukos of money.

This is how I personally see it. Togashi writing HxH is probably just a hobby for him, and when he gets bored or It's gets in the way of his family life, he goes on hiatus. Because he sure as hell doesn't have to do this for the money.

not having to do it is still not a reason to not finish it. In this industry its kind of a responsibility you have to take on when you decide to go into it. He needs to finish it for the fans even if its just a quick arc to finish it out. If hes sick well then yea I can see him not working on it but otherwise I see no reason to not atleast finish it off quickly if nothing else.

Personally I think the hiatus has only gone on for so long because there is a 3 year anime and 2 movies filling in the gaps. When Hunter x Hunter officially dies in the summer (at the conclusion of the anime), the real hiatus will begin and Togashi will probably want to come out of it within a year like he did with all his other hiatuses.

I never understood the lack of official information concerning these hiatuses. Why must fans be left in the dark and only be able speculate why their favorite manga suddenly stops for 2 years?

Yea i agree with slime. When it runs out and the demand gets there he will return to make the series. However it will be sad to have such a long anime break.
