Synopsis

Makoto Tsukimoto (nicknamed Smile) is a quiet high-schooler who's been friends with the loud and energetic Yukata Hoshino (nicknamed Peco) since childhood. They're both in the local table tennis club and both have a natural talent for it, although Smile's personality always enables him from winning against Peco. The club teacher, however, notices Smile's talent and tries to make him gain some sportive tenacity.

Damn, that PV looks awesome. The manga debuted awhile ago although I haven't read it yet. Oh well. I still love the way the characters play out their moves so far in the PV. The artwork seems a little odd though but whatever. 11 episodes and it's from Noitaminia. CR will likely get this so looking forward to it.

Thinking about watching this for the simple reason that I dislike the art style.

I want to get over that particular bias, and I've heard good things about the staff, so I might force myself to give it a try.

Taking out character development and story progression. I find most anime having the primary setting revolving around a sport to be dull and not "fun" to watch.

I have stated that, even with my stand (clause above). I do not factor personal views on determining the value an anime. I just find sport oriented anime not my thing. (see Chihayafuru thread)

I saw the Tekkonkinkreet movie adapted from another manga by the same author. And that was really amazing, a complete surprise for me. So I'm expecting this to be at least half as good.

Funimation has just announced the license for this show. Given the way the season is shaking out, I plan on following one sports anime, either this show, Haikyuu, or Baby Steps.

I don't really like the art style... but still... I can't get over the fact that there is an anime about PING PONG.

Episode 1

Peco may be talented, but he loves to showboat with his style of game. Yep, he's an egomaniac. He totally got schooled by an elite player from China in Wenge. The animation style of this show is weird, and I like the fact that those guys from China are speaking in Chinese. The coach said that there is always somebody better out there, and that's what it led to. Anyway, I plan on following only one sports anime, and while the artstyle was just not to my taste, the content made a nice impression.
