and yea the show has really good development and plot even though there is an obvious lacking of hi def animations but it seems to work for this show.

Wow wow wow! I thought Haikyu!! was going to be my favorite sports anime this season. I was wrong; it is Ping Pong!

(I plan to watch both, and probably Baby Steps too)

I definitely recommend Baby Steps :p

I watched the second episode last night. It's really good, even improving on the first impression I had from the first episode. I think I'm going to be dropping lots of mecha and magic, and watching lots of sports.

For anyone who can appreciate Yuasa's anarchistic, boundless animation should definitely check out his other works.

He's at his most weird and wonderful in MindGame. It's his most universally inaccessible project, though forgivably so, given that the climax of the story eventuates inside a whale.

Wouldn't presume to even begin analysing what was going through his head when he storyboarded this scene. Start with the Tatami Galaxy; it's relatively light (taking particular note of the word 'relatively').

Episode 2

This time, it's Smile who is getting schooled, but for much different reasons than Peco. For Smile, he is way too soft. But once he unleashed the robot inside him, it was over. That was a pretty nice episode here, but I think that will be it for me here since I said I was only planning to follow one sports show this season, and I am leaning towards Haikyuu being it as I'm just not buying in to this style of animation. But nevertheless it has a nice story building.

Episode 2

That was brilliant. I love how the show grasped on Tsukimoto and his character even when he was playing ping pong. The way he was playing along with the dialogues communicates his inner self very well imo. The OST was brilliant and the ping pong action was decent too.

I find him to be quite a complex character so I'm looking forward to seeing him develop soon.

The ED song is one of my favorites also.

Holy shit, did China struggle in the latest episode? I think he did...wow. Anyways great stuff still. The OST is eargasmic and the motifs are clever. Smile really improved and even has that humming thing going on.

Great episode.

It's a tragedy that more people aren't watching this (evidenced by only three pages of discussion), because this show is one of the best of the season. I'm sure a lot of people are put of by the unusual art style, but man if there was ever an ugly looking show that I would recommend people give the 3 episode rule to, this would be it.

Episode 1

Well, I had no expectations going into this and ended up really enjoying what I saw. The Mandarin was a nice touch, and I speak some so I did not need the subs for those lines; which was pretty neat. The animation is pretty fluid though the designs are so weird at times. It was unusual, but a good unusual for me. The world felt very real yet surreal at the same time. The way the characters acted was pretty down to earth, but the style and substance of the animation was out of this world at times. I think this might be a sleeper hit for me this season, and I'm looking forward to where they will take the story.

Table Tennis is no joke. It's EXTREMELY hard. I would say harder than tennis tennis.

Anime pinging will be good because the ball will have speed lines to emphasize where the ball is spinning, which is what the sport is all about. It'll be easy for the viewers to pick up the ball trajectories and learn counterspin strategy by watching along with the play. This makes it a lock for any actual table tennis players, and hopefully will attract some new fans.

The drawing style does look meh but I'm willing to give it a go. If it's as engrossing as Xbox 360's Rockstar Table Tennis, I'm sure people will love it.

I liked this show when it first came out, but now it's really grown on me. The art style has clicked, and I'm a fan of the environment and the tension in the atmosphere that the show is able to set up.

Just watched the 2nd and 3rd episode and I got to say this one is one of the better animes out this season. Really strong writing, characters and such a unique art style. I'm really interested to see where it is going especially where the last episode ended.

I was too tired Thursday to watch, and yesterday I forgot. Just watched episode 3 today. It really is amazing and just keeps building. I think this is the second best show I'm watching this season (the first best being Tonari no Seki-kun). I don't mind the art style at all, but even if did I think the excellent work done with character plus story plus even more character would easily overcome that. (Sadly I think I don't have a hope of convincing those who stop watching within a few minutes due to the art style.)

Was really enjoying the 3rd episode right up until the end. Episode 3/11, I guess it's too much to ask for him to try winning this early in a sports anime? Too bad. Was really good but I'm not sure I can watch it again wondering which episode he'll finally decide to win rather than feeling sorry for his opponents.
