*Initialising fanboy mode.

Love it love it love it love it.

Stunning op and already best anime of the season by a million leagues, no argument. To imagine this being conceivably branded as a fringe work is criminal.

Right now waiting for the full adventure time episode Masaaki storyboarded. This man cemented my appreciation for the potential of animation in general so it seems appropriate that he'd become involved, however peripherally, with what is likely my favourite cartoon.

Episode 4

Good episode and I'm somewhat surprised that China got owned there. It was also nice to learn about his character a bit as I find him to be a complex person.

The matches were pretty good with the movements and the dragon symbolism was awesome. Definitely looking forward to next week.

From the director of The Tatami Galaxy--one of my favorites. This show was high on my list for the season, and thus far it's proving to be worth the spot on my list

That was an amazing and interesting episode. Loved the dstorted and symbolic way the animation was used to portray the matches and perceptions about the matches--very creative. There's some really great narrative choices being made also--like how the focus turned away from Tsukimoto to Kazama for the bulk of the episode, yet how that monstrous match that was the centerpiece also became the background against which we learned more about Wenge and Tsukimoto. Everything about this anime is so dynamic.

(The Peco and Sakuma match was--fun to watch too, though the outcome was no surprise).

There's a lot less animation in this than I was hoping for, but it's still a visual treat to watch. Since I'm watching Haikyuu at the same time, and I rarely watch sports anime at all, I end up comparing and contrasting the two, and I love them both. Haikyuu fulfills my craving for wild expressions and high quality animation, but I'm loving how unconventional Smile and Peco are compared to Hinata and Kageyama, who are unique in their own way, but still play to standard Shonen Jump/sports anime personality conventions.

I feel ashamed in myself for not starting this series until now....the plot is so freaking interesting! and then there is the abstract animation which just meshes with the story so perfectly. I need to introduce this to more people.

Forgot to add, there is the orgasmic OST, ahhhh god I love it.

Oh man, I never wrote anything about this episode, which was excellent.

I'll be surprised if we see much more of Wenge after this episode; his character is, for all purposes, over and his symbolic role has made the necessary statement about the dangerous of "staking your life on Ping Pong." Is the reason Kazama is able to be so entirely engaged in the sport because his has nothing to lose?

RIP RACKET?!

It was a nice episode with refreshment. I hope China plays again though in the future. The little word plays were nice~

WENGE IS BACK! And I'm freaking happy about it.

Incredible episode; I don't even really know what to do with myself after that.

It's stupid that there are only 4 pages of discussion for this show. Stupid.

It's not even a sports anime, really. Is any of this about the sport of ping pong? No, that's just the vehicle. This is about people.

And Ping Pong continues to dominate the season.

Those last few minutes reminded me of Nisio's stuff, what with talent being >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> hard work.
