I learned about Nostradamus in my AP euro class when learning about the french revolution. Apparently, Nostradamus was a prophet hundreds of years ago who made extremely accurate predictions. He prophecised about the french revolution, rise of napoleon, and hitler. (for the french revolution, he almost perfectly foretold about the fall of bastille and even what would happen after, and for hitler he warned about him, even by name). He also made small prophecies too. When a small monk came to visit him, nostradamus immediately went on his knees and kissed the monk's feet. When the monk asked him why are you doing this, nostradamus said I must pay my respects to the pope. Two years later, the monk became the pope. I saw a documentary on this guy but I couldn't find it. I found another one instead, from national geographic. You need the veoh tv to watch it though

Hmm foretelling the future? I hardly can relate it being possible. Yet the world has possibilities anyways. Someone did foretell something will happen in 2012 but lets not get off topic... I'm not really sure if hes real or not but its for think whether you believe it or not.

anyone who makes predictions that are vague enough will seem like a prophet. he predicted that a great leader would die of a head wound. people say he predicted kennedy's death. his prediction was so vague, however, of course it would eventually come true.

There was a tv show about someone using nostradamus's perdictions, but I forgot the name of it. I looked him up in a book, but I couldn't really understand the author's translation of his perdictions.

EDIT: the show is called First Wave, its pretty good.

Most of Nostradamus' predictions were vague. From what I remember most of his stuff could be shown in any situation, and all of his predictions were basic enough to were they would happen sometimes in history no matter what (As JuliaRhys mentioned with the leader dieing with a head wound thing). Even so some of his famous ones, The Histor/Hitler one still gets me. I still think he just made some vague descriptions and let society try and link them together for him to make him seem like he could foretell the future.

Nostradamus made ACCURATE predictions. I don't know too much about him but the prediction of the fall of bastille was made BEFORE that building was even made. There are other predictions he made but i forgot cuz my history teacher just showed us for fun we didn't study him or anything

the predictions were vague, but are consistent with other culture's mythologies.

the most consistent part is the "end of the world." it is consistent with taoist yin/yang formula, hindu yugas (ages), and even some european pagan mythologies. not to mention the mayan calendar (which i've heard does not predict the end of the world, simply the restart of the calendar)

i heard about that dude to.
and even though i have a hard time believing in god i believe in nostradamus.
Atleast it was proven that he existed and the things he predicted came true. Wish he was alive i'd spend hundreds of dollars to go to him to tell me something meaningful. Doesnt have to be my future or anything, just a secret or something to give me to hold onto. *sigh*
too bad theres non out there now..

the book of revelations predicted the russian revolution and such, but its harder to tell because it was written from the perspective of a man who was born 2000 years ago.

Some of nostradamus's predictions were vague and some were even written in poetry, but some were extremely accurate such as hitler and the french revolution

I think the 2012 prediction came from either the Aztecs or Mayans.

require his talent? he grew up learning astrology, astronomy, maths and several languages. then went to study medicine. apparently he could cure the plague. there was also a rumour he always used a black mirror in getting his predictions and in the one people seem to relate to hitler he actually used the name hister.

personally i think when something is written cryptically enough like predictions and all the stuff people seem to get out of the bible are a just a weakness. they're just looking for what they want to find and when it's as non specific as it is, you could relate it to anything.

Skeptics cast doubt upon the interpretation of Nostradamus's quatrains (Randi 1993). Here is how James Randi and Cheetham read one of the more famous quatrains, allegedly predicting the rise of Adolph Hitler to power in Germany:

Bêtes farouches de faim fleuves tranner;
Plus part du champ encore Hister sera,
En caige de fer le grand sera treisner,
Quand rien enfant de Germain observa. (II.24)

Cheetham's version:

Beasts wild with hunger will cross the rivers,
The greater part of the battle will be against Hitler.
He will cause great men to be dragged in a cage of iron,
When the son of Germany obeys no law.

Randi's version:

Beasts mad with hunger will swim across rivers,
Most of the army will be against the Lower Danube.
The great one shall be dragged in an iron cage
When the child brother will observe nothing.

Neither translation seems to make much sense, but at least Randi's recognizes that "Hister" refers to a geographical region, not a person. So does "Germania," by the way; it refers to an ancient region of Europe, north of the Danube and east of the Rhine. It may also refer to a part of the Roman Empire, corresponding to present-day northeastern France and part of Belgium and the Netherlands. (Because Hister is an ancient name for the Danube region near Hitler's childhood home, some think the reference is clearly to him.)
from http://skepdic.com/nostrada.html

I remember reading somewhere that Hister was supposed to be Nostradamus' enemy and so, the guy put Hister in the predictions, or something like that.

I don't know. I'll just predict that a world leader will die from an accident. My name will be immortalized because I predicted the death of _____ ______. Some predictions are really too vague. But Hitler's bit was rather eerie.

it is really pretty cool to be able to foresee the future.. and the best thing is that he did it for the good of the world... =).... but i think nobody really take him for real... if not someone could have stop hitler...
