Then subscribe to whatever is available in your area.

Or... as you likely know, people make what's available... available. So you get English subs even though you can't purchase a subscription. This is too bad, you'd like to subscribe but they won't let you, maybe others in your region don't have many shows. Really unfortunate mess of licensing. Been decades and they still can't figure it out.... probably never will. So watch what you wish as you can and please support what you can when you can. That's all we can ask for.

The orphans are the worst. I still hope Crunchyroll really gets Symphogear GX, while the show is still airing. 2 episodes in and still no details of when is worrying for sure.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised to not see it show up until the season is more than half over. I hope I'm wrong (more for the sake of others, as I'm more of a marathon guy), but my gut tells me it could be a long wait.

At least I expect it to be better than when they got Dog Days' and told us they would also be getting the original series. They did, but only after the simulcast of the second series had completed, which I seriously doubt was what simulcast fans were expecting.

I can't recall any instance of where CR announced something as a simulcast, but never got it. Encouragement of Climb 2 was certainly a long delay, but they did finally get it.

Speaking of which, I'm of the mind that Encouragement of Climb 2 got caught up in a possible licensing war between FUNi and Sentai, or at the very least, was put on the table as part of a possible bundle.

It's rather interesting that licenses for Sentai's Brynhildr in the Darkness, FUNimation's Wanna Be the Strongest in the World and CR's stream return of Encouragement of Climb 2 all came in the space of 4 days and all are YTV licenses.

While the lineup page is still showing only two more "?" boxes as of when I posted this, I note the announcement topic that included Makuranodanshi shows 4 "?? - ??" lines remaining.

Interesting.
That would make 3 more boxes that need to be added, for a total of 5. Since Symphogear GX is already on the announced list, and not up on the lineup as of yet.

Why blame Funimation for doing a better job at grabbing titles? Blame Crunchyroll for not doing enough... or just subscribe to both and enjoy a little healthy competition. Yes, it's a small pain to have to go to two sites, or more (I also subscribe to Netflix and use Daisuki and TAN as a guest) but at least most titles are available and the fees are low.

.

Even with 300,000+subscribers, I still don't see how Crunchyroll can directly compete with a home video provider, especially with the margins involved.

I do wonder if Sentai and Funimation have differing tastes, or differing ideas on how to run an anime business, or if they just have some kind of gentleman's agreement. Because whilst there's variety in what they both pick up, you can certainly identify trends of what they both like to pick up.

Most of the time the gripes against Crunchyroll tend to be about Funimation's slightly larger checkbook or their preference for the more gory or violent titles.

Crunchyroll to Stream Live-Action Akagi Show Outside Japan

I guess that would take up one of the boxes.

I've updated the initial message with the new box count (30) and snapshot.

We have 25 anime titles in the new simulcast section now, so my prediction of 25-26 appears to be on the mark. I get the impression the 3 "?" boxes we have now may be the last ones. With one to be filled by the live action Akagi and another by no doubt by Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei Herz! (which would make 26) within the next week, that leaves one box in question. Will it be live action or a late start of one of the short form anime?

Yet they still haven't added it (or even announced it as of the time I post this). Another live action show (Detectives vs. Detectives) has been added, and the box count was bumped up, now standing at 30 for new simulcasts.

3 "?" boxes remain available, enough for it, Prisma Illya 2wei Herz! and one more unknown.

EDIT: They finally announced Akagi, but it is still MIA on the lineup page as of this update.

Wow detectives vs detectives is the english name of Tantei no Tantei right? That's originally novels from Matsuoka Keisuke sensei. I LOVE that author's way to write mysteries. I haven't read that one yet (still read 20 volumes he wrote already, and my last purchase that haven't arrived yet have 5 more of him with the Tokutou Tenjouin Alpha no Nanjiken series) but I didn't even know Tantei no Tantei had green lit a tv drama. In fact the only drama adpatation of his work I knew was the adaptation of the Bannou kanteishi Q series' 9th volume (Drama was titled Mona Lisa no hitomi I think).
Well I'm not really into drama so that may not be a surprise but still happy to see his work getting adaptations.
Was thinking of buying tantei no tantei in a few months after I finish the 5 volumes of Alpha. Either that or Saimin that seems really good and interesting too.

Anyway, if the live action show is half as good as Matsuoka sensei's book, then that's highly recomended for peoples loving detective stories. That author write best sellers after best sellers in Japan.
