CLANNAD is so overrated it is not even funny. The first season is filled with over acting, forced humor and "cuteness", too much moe, characters with flat, generic personalities/moe as a characterization. Cliche after cliche filled the run, and the storyline was not well thought out. The girls were either Tsunderes, Loli's, acted like toddlers or subservient Waifu's and it dragged on and on (especially with the Fuko arc) and the conclusion was outrageously over exaggerated.

CLANNAD After Story fixed some of the flaws - it was much better written, and had a better story overall. But it was still filled again with Moe, forced cuteness/humor, over acting and major over exaggeration. Characters had moe/loli/Tsaundere as a personality or filled in the stereotypical bubbles of characterization, and not in a good way. Nagisa was the absolute stereotypical Waifu, and she was subservient, docile and a total stereotype of a Japanese housewife/wife.

Anyone who thinks this nonsense is a good romance series and the "best" is out of their mind or they think moeblobs make good characters.

Only great things about both series were the artwork/ animation and of course the music.

For me it's no comparison. I didn't like Ef very much. To the extend that I had no motivation whatsoever to watch the prequel/sequel series that follows it.

No one ever said Clannad was that good in the first place.

Also, Clannad After Story is one of the most emotional, heartbreaking stories in existence. There is no Waifu. And you probably didn't finish Clannad After Story because you didn't mention the most important character of Clannad After Story.

And if you're going to complain that it doesn't matter or that you did, then mention all of the important characters.

If you think Clannad After Story is shallow when the entire world loves it be my guest. Have satisfaction in hating something everyone else enjoys. I don't see the point in hating a good anime. It's better to enjoy and use your time productively.

In my case, it changed my life. Anyone, who thinks this is generic and has moe is out of their mind. This was a depressing haunting tale. After Story has nothing to do with moe. You have literally got to be kidding me. The only part of Afterstory that makes it not a 10/10 was Fuko IMO. Otherwise, given the score and the animation it was absolutely bafflingly amazing.

I'm with you on some of your points here. But Clannad is one of the moe-est moe anime series I've ever seen. It's one of the reasons I love it.

Them hipsters hating on anything that is popular, even if they, themselves, know for a fact that they are wrong.
Crunchyroll is full of these know-it-alls. Don't let them get to you.

They will stay mad after realizing that Clannad ~AS~ (and Clannad is still arguable) will continue to eclipse their fake favorite shows for all eternity.

At it calling out Clannad for having too much moe though when the characters of EF look like this:

That leads me to think, he never even mentioned EF at all. The obsession with Clanad is REAL, I tell you.

Lol - oddly enough, I actually have serious issues with both, yet enjoyed both as well.

Clannad had the issue of focusing on the most bland and uninteresting heroine imaginable, but they also had characters I was really interested in like Kotomi, Fuko, and Kyou. It also managed to make me cry (though, nothing involving Nagisa or Ushio did that, mind you). EDIT - Oh yea, and then there's that whole deus ex machina thing to contend with.. but that's been addressed enough in the Clannad vs AnoHana case lol

Ef would have been perfect if they completely took out the Hiro / Kei / Miyako arc. Or changed the ending... Honestly, that one arc drags the whole show down for me. But on the plus side, it had very interesting characters and a good premise (for the good arc, at least).

I guess i'd have to give it to Ef. If I were to watch the two shows side by side now without any prior knowledge of either, I really think i'd like Ef far more than Clannad. That's just me, though.

Well, considering my post on my dislike of CLANNAD prompted this reply in a way, let me tell you: I don't care if something is popular or not. If I don't like it - regardless of its popularity or lack thereof - I will state my views and opinion on that.

Not everyone who hates on a popular anime and loves one that is not so mainstream is a hipster - that's a misconception. I love series that are super popular and some that are hardly known - and I hate series that are super popular and some that are hardly known.

It all comes down to what I personally like, and what I personally dislike.

If anyone is doing the generalizing here, its you. After all, you're basing my entire comment on my avatar, which is a hipster!Ariel, and which I use because it amuses me greatly.

It is funny, how you insist I'm wrong just because I do not love the same series you do. Grow up.

Well, thanks for sharing your opinion with me. I can see you love CLANNAD and that's fine. I don't, never will. And by the way, I watched both series fully, and the movie (which was the worst of the lot in my opinion).

Funny, how yet again another user (you) this time thinks I am hating on CLANNAD because its "popular". Bet you think I'm a hipster as well. Seriously? Perhaps you should realize there are people out there who actually dislike things just because they personally do not like them, not because they're trying to be "different" - something which I think is utterly idiotic.

I dislike CLANNAD because that's just it - I dislike it. Not because its popular, or some such nonsense.

You have got to be kidding me. Where are you basing that from?
Only people who are true to themselves will admit that they like KyoaAni and its moe. So, a select FEW.
