Both were romance and both dealt with different issues. Vastly different premises. Nagi no asukara was way more innocent in it's love portrayal for the most part and it was within the fantasy genre.

I won't say much to leave it up to discussion but I'll make a quick point:

Nagi no Asukara, for one, dealt with it's buildup towards its finale way better. It built up a more impactful problem. The whole population hybernating thing, with the world being at risk, was far more engaging than banri having panic attacks whenever he remembered something.

It not only had a better setup leading towards a conclusion but the finale in itself was far superior. Golden's time's finale left out too many open ends and it felt rushed. The final episode was near garbage tier and the bridge scene was awkward (wtf linda being completely natural about the ghost popping up, admitting she loves banri anyway then going "LOL peace out ima do whatever you guys have fun over there kissing and stuff even though I love you..),

I'd nagi a 9 or a 9.5/10 and golden time barely a 7.

I don't think Linda was literally there, in fact, I think it was all just Banri resolving his feelings one way or another. I mean the area was covered in fog that miraculously vanishes when he gets to Koko.

I actually thought she was going to jump off the bridge in her grief and Banri was going there to save her.

As for Nagi, I'll agree that it was the better show, but I also like that they didn't feel forced into resolving everything. Hikari seemed pretty conflicted by his feelings by the end of it is the impression I got off him, and I think Hikari, Miuna and Manaka all knew that and the existence of the triangle.

Nagi was a better show for me because it was gorgeous, tickled all the boxes and pulled at my heart strings. Hikari stands to me as the epitome of a character's growth throughout the series, Kaname was just the boy with the giant brass balls and ironically I thought Chisaki was the one who needed to grow up the most, although given that she's been cut from life as she knew it entirely, I think she is understandable in her thought processes. Manaka I thought was the least interesting as a character though.

Golden Time entertained me, but in comparison to Nagi that was about all it did for me. Considering he's a university student, it felt like they spent practically all their time *not* at uni (although 15 minutes devoted to learning nothing but trade law might not be all that exciting to animate). Tada Banri seemed to get the girl perhaps too quick imo.

I have to admit users are getting very clever in the way he or she makes a thread.

The anime ending of Golden Time gave us full resolution of the main love triangle. Nagi no Asukara did not. Conversely in fact Nagi gave the secondary characters resolved endings while GT did not but I would rather have the MCs situation resolved if I have to choose. Resolving most or all of the relationships would have been better for both IMO as I expect that neither will get a sequel.

But GT novel ends differently and handles Linda differently. I am only speaking of the anime adaptation here. GT novel did not end satisfactorily for me.

Neither one lived up to their potential for me in the end. Both got 8/10 from me after thinking about them. Very good but could have been done better. Some flaws for sure. Don't need to rewatch either of them.

Golden Time had interesting philosophical questions it tried to answer. Nagi sort of did I suppose. Neither answered them well for me. GT novel did a better job of it; the anime skipped most of that stuff unfortunately.

Golden Time was the far more ambitious emotional show and was, in my opinion, superior to Nagi.

Golden Time resolved everything; Nagi gave hints that things were resolved, but never actually said so.

Nagi had a better first cour than Golden Time, Golden Time didn't have melancholic, one-dimensional Miuna dragging down its second cour.

It's funny to see Shishioshi's slumbering population and the impending doom of the world brought up as reasons Nagi's finale was better, since the show pretty much totally ignored that storyline after the time skip.

I have to admit the fish knee fondling scene early on creeped me out so much that I never went back to the show. I don't even know why really but... *shudder*

I disagree. I felt both shows were good. But ,I believe Golden Time was more of a emotional series for me. I will say that Nagi No Asukara's finale did obliterated Golden Time's. Nagi no Asukara did have incredible visuals.

I agree with this. They were very different shows, so I'd rather not directly compare them. Yes, I enjoyed Nagi more than GT, but GT was also a more adult story. I really liked both, but I think Nagi succeeded better than GT. I think some of GT's failings come from the source material, to be honest.

And of course the KLK fanboys have to show up. All we need is the LH crew to join in too.

Battle of the Two Cours!
Nagi no Asukara - 8
Golden Time - 6
Log Horizon - 7
Strike the Blood - 6
Kill La Kill - on hold. I couldn't get into it, but I've decided to give it another chance eventually.

Nagi apparently is the winner, but none of the shows were all that good. I feel that the weekly waiting helped Nagi's score considerably. If I was to watch it in one shot, I doubt I would give it as high a score. None of the shows have any rewatchability, imo.

Golden Time was massively disappointing, considering it's pedigree.

I actually think that Golden Time's first cour blew Nagi away, but then I found Manaka annoying and, for me, ghost Banri really sucked the life, no pun intended, out of Golden Time's second half. Nagi's ending felt less contrived, but was less satisfying, imo.

May I ask a question? Is it really? I watched up to the 3rd or 4th episode and I put it on "hold". I haven't gone back to see it, yet. I was planning on it. I can be difficult to keep up with every series, but I try. If it is the season's winner, then i'll marathon the rest of it tonight.

I knew a thread would come up like this LOL! Personally, I thought Nagi No Asukara. I can't say much on Golden Time because I dropped it at episode 18 or 19? Not sure, I gave it a lot of chances, but honestly none of the characters were appealing at all to me. That and I felt the OP 2 and ED 2 pretty much told you what the show was going to be about. If I am right, I don't know cause I haven't finished it yet nor have I visited the thread. Will I pick it up? Probably not. All of my friends seemed to be bummed out by it, so I will listen to there reaction. In the end, both of these have different elements going on and will please different crowds.
