I wanna start Evangelion, but I don't know the watching order. Can anyone help me with series + movies

Well. You watch episodes: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26

then: end of evangelion

or watch the movies in order of: 1 2 3 4

edit: just don't watch if you haven't started.

or you can skip the TV series watch Death and Rebirth which basically sums up the series in two hours and BE REALLY confused when you watch end of evangelion.

Might just be better to watch the movies since they're made with the intent of bringing in new fans

But if you want to see the whole thing then start with the TV series up till episode 24
then watch End of Evangelion which gives an alternate ending to the series which is a lot better and conclusive than the TV series ending
You can then watch the movies, keep in mind that the films are not a continuation of the TV series but rather a reboot with a new take on the story and characters

The TV series or the Movie series, either one you'll be in for an awesome experience,
and if you find eva's not for you think about checking out Gunbuster/Diebuster and Gurren Lagann, those are some other mecha anime by Gainax which personally I find better than NGE

just go to your local high school and spend some time in the guidance office listening to angsty teens whine about how much their life sucks. between whine sessions, play with gundam models and imagine a fight with giant monsters.

FYI, just because you didn't enjoy a show doesn't mean no one else will enjoy it. Can you really purport to know whether or not someone who you've never even met will enjoy a particular show? No, you can't. So declaring how someone should feel about a show by saying "be prepared to be disappointed" is a terrible idea.

If you have some sort of mental capacity and you are prepared to watch something that will leave you very confused (but you can find answers through self-reflection and google), then Evangelion is for you. The characters of the show are all extravagantly flawed, and you wont particularly like any of them except maybe Shinji depending on if you don't overestimate your own courage as a person. It's very confusing, but the message of the show itself involves your ability to pay close attention to what happens and to understand each character, especially Shinji.

The watching order is: The TV series (eps 1-26) and then End of Evangelion. Don't bother with Death and Rebirth or the Rebuilds. They're extraordinarily bad renditions of a previously fantastic series.

Although it is a good idea to have reasonable expectations when stepping into any show, that way you won't fall as hard if you don't like it and if you do like it you'll be pleasantly surprised. Especially if it's a super hyped one like NGE.

The Rebuild movies is Evangelion for people who hate Evangelion, so I'd recommend watching them and the show itself (along with End of Evangelion) in the order AnimeKami specified. You can pick which one you like, if either.

Personally I like them both, just for different reasons.

The End of Evangelion is not an alternate ending. To be accurate, the TV series ending is the same as the End of Evangelion. The last two episodes (25 and 26) take place within the minds of the characters during EoE after the "Komm Susser Tod" montage. EoE was intended to be the last two episodes, but Gainax ran out of budget and couldn't animate EoE yet. Thus, episodes 25 and 26 were born. Personally, I think the main purpose of the show lies within those two episodes. If you couldn't figure that out, you didn't understand the show.

Huh well that's something I didn't know, I knew that the ending in EOE wasn't made due to budget but I never knew that the TV series ending was actually the same as EOE.
Well it has been about 8 yrs since I watched NGE and EOE so I guess my memory's a little foggy, and again NGE isn't my favorite Gainax anime so I never really analyzed the show heavily.
