Attack on Titan.

I don't like horror, and too many people seem to think it's perfect. I don't like overly bloody or gruesome anime and I know a lot of other people like that. Yes, the animation and music/openings are amazing, but that doesn't excuse the extensive amount of traumatic scenes there, so I think it's overhyped.

Eureka 7 and Blue Exorcist. Maybe durarara too.

The thing with Durarara, is I can see why people would like it.

I absolutely do not see the appeal in Blue Exorcist or Eureka 7. I thought they would get good and they just never did. Each of those shows were super hyped in their time, and I'm pretty sure Eureka 7 still has ravaging fans.

Other thread made me think of it, @#*($&$# Macross.

Yeah it's important and it was huge, but... no, just no.

AoT I would say, from an entertainment POV, was an enjoyable watch -- simply because it's a rather unique setting. Writing-wise, I would say it's far too slow in pacing, and it gets boring just watching humanity get slaughtered at every turn.

SAO honestly, isn't very good period. It knows how to tug on the edgy teen action-drama heartstrings, but from a writing perspective it's pretty terrible. Nobody other than Kirito is allowed to do anything important in the series, none of the secondary characters are really fleshed out at all -- they're just there to make Kirito look good, or walk in at plot convenience. Kirito suffers from tremendous Gary Stu syndrome -- AKA apparently one of the few competent enough to min-max the character stats, fastest reaction time, only one allowed to dual wield, cheats death with WILLPOWER etc. Then you have the original villain being completely anti-climactic in "I'm just a shadow of him, I don't even remember why I did this" -- really? Then Sugou is just evil for evil sake with rapist cackles etc. Not to mention Aincrad was about Kirito's skill, when in ALO he was just given a maxed out character and cheated his way through the entire thing, not on skill at all.

AoT. I've never seen "average" get hyped so much.

As I said above: I think it's all because of the "humanity on the brink" and the unique setting that appeals to people. The one thing it really has going for it, is that there really is nothing else like it before setting-wise.

AoT and SAO. SAO was poorly made and poorly paced. AoT was much better but still wasn't all that great. The visuals and music were amazing, but the characters sucked and the plot was a mess.

Very true. Probably because people seem to want something fun to watch that's visually appealing instead of something with all-around quality.
