the ending will do two things for you either

A.) make you cry

B.) make you hate the main character

that's assuming if don't hate him by then

Code Geass *S1* had an amazing plot. Sunrise-meddling pretty much ruined S2 by changing the timeslot to primetime. 75% of the plot had to be reworked and it was just terrible. Only the ending really stayed the same and made sense.

S2 seemed great to me just a little rushed

Fairy Tail.

I have nothing against the series, but I get most of my hype through these forums, and they are just bursting at the seams with people going on about it. Especially in the last few weeks for obvious reasons.

AoT I would say, from an entertainment POV, was an enjoyable watch -- simply because it's a rather unique setting. Writing-wise, I would say it's far too slow in pacing, and it gets boring just watching humanity get slaughtered at every turn.

I have never heard someone saying AoT had slow pacing, well at least up to episode 14 the pacing, in my opinion is amazing. After that it slows done it's pace to follow the manga which hopefully is a good thing.
. Personally I thought AoT lived up to it's hype especially for the first 14 episodes, and am pretty surprised people found it over hyped (though I might just be becoming like one of those crazy SAO fans when I say that )

Seems like a reoccurring theme of anime's reaching their prime at season 1 :/.

In retrospect, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. For about five or so years after it came out it was a huge deal that everybody had to watch, and nowadays I feel like a lot of new anime fans won't even know much about it other than that exists. I honestly feel like these days the name Haruhi will bring Ouran High School Host Club to mind before TMoHS for a lot of anime fans.

And the thing is, it kinda deserves that place in history. It's not a terrible show, but for all its influence, I feel like in the year 2014 it doesn't hold up nearly as well. I'm a fan of the original novels and I'd say it's a good franchise, but it really didn't deserve the "best anime ever" hype it got at the time.

The Disappearance movie is still fucking amazing though.
