Like free swag, like I used to watch people on G4TV go to E3 and whatever else and sometimes they'd mention the free swag they got.

I also understand that it has something to do with people who like hip-hop and music like that but I do not understand the full meaning of the word in their definition, they wear swag on their shirts and hats so that leads me to believe that swag is a positive thing.

it means cool looking, dope, trill. I've noticed that a lot of the folks who don't like the word are often stealth racists or hater virgins. unsurprised at the amount of casual homophobia they use in denouncing the word but still disappointed. we have a long way to go I fear...

Secretly
We
Are
Gay

I'm being cynical, of course.

To me it's a sign that I no longer have any wish to associate with the person who spoke it.

*swag* never liked that word -.-
But what I get from people saying "swag" about themselves *I've got swag etc.* They are just trying to be cool, or something, I guess. *not working though.
But now it seems that it has turned into a cheesy way of sarcastically talk about something not cool, like, "that douchebag teacher has all the swag"
meh..idk, that word is pointless anyway you look at it, just like yolo -.-

All these words people use now, I just don't understand them at all to be honest. I'm not old or anything, but I really just don't get the use of 'words' like Yolo or Swag.
I mean, why do people keep telling me You Obviously Love Owls?
And, I get it people! You don't need to repeat Seriously We Adore Ganguro

Nah, that's loot.
Funnily enough swag has been a synonym for loot for 200 years. It was another word used by criminals and such for stolen goods. And yes, swag has long been used as a term for free merch, for longer than you've even been alive in fact.

I've heard this before, but never bothered to look it up until I saw your post.

Turns out, "swag" is quite an interesting and versatile word.

I, personally, always associated it with merchandise/stuff.

It's no accident "swag" replaced "cool" at the same time "celebrity" replaced "star", and 'talent' shows outdid chart shows in popularity. Earlier, people became famous and were worshipped for some good singing or acting, but now a Paris Hilton can get all the attention just because she could awe teen girls by wasting money and teen boys with her boobs. (Not that Madonna didn't use her boobs, but she also used talent and effort.) So what gets me is that the swag army wants to get its fifteen minutes of shine with no effort and no originality.

Yeah homophobia seems still the cheapest way to denigrate what you don't like, especially on-line, and I can't stand that even if I can't stand the object of derision either. For example, much as I dislike Justin Bieber, to me all the teen boys harrassing the teen girls who worship him who sound awfully like losers who can't get over not getting a date.

"I look good. Got style. Got swag yo. showin off my swag up in here bra. That's how I roll up in here yo." pfft! hahahahaha! getting back on course now. Before I looked up what it is, I heard a lot of people using it. So I got highly confused. I looked up what it actually meant, and it actually means merchandise. So I ask myself, "If it means merchandise, does that mean that they're actually describing theirselves as merchandise?" Intel they actually talking about they're looks.

I'm alright around people who still say such things. I still find that stupid though. lol.
