I think many people nowadays use it sarcastically to make fun of people who describe themselves as having swag

It's an undefined term, more so just understood, sort of like a line.

The word "swag" does not exist in my vocabulary and dictionary. Therefore, I refuse to acknowledge it.

Swag to me, is a stupid "word" along with YOLO, totes, and many other words/phrases that are butchering the English language -_-

"Swag" and "Yolo" are the two most useless words in the English language.

It's one of those annoying new non-english words all the cool kids use so us old folk don't understand them.

Sure, I'll join Isuzu's necro-posting party, it's at least getting us off of the gay-marriages:

Where I live a 'swag' is a bedroll carried around by homeless people.

"Swag" used to mean what pirates or burglars carried off in a big bag, so technically, the old homeless guy has the correct definition, although the Australians warped it a bit.

And then, Oscar and red-carpet celebrity bashes started giving out "Swag bags" of free promotional goodies to run off with, and everyone started associating "Swag" = "Upscale Bling", and hating/bragging it accordingly.
Those who hate the term are more likely having a negative reaction to those who got it wrong.

To me...

It's a trigger word. When I hear it, I immediately dismiss anything coming out of the mouth of the one who spoke it. Should I? Probably not, but I can't help it. It's reflex. I just can't take them seriously.

I've also never liked the word "game" when referring to picking up a sexual partner.
