"fandoms" in general just annoy me, even for series i love. i mean it's one thing to discuss the series or do fan art or whatever, but when people get TOO obsessive over shows it's rarely good.

The amount of hate threads, is too high. But yes I guess why not hate something due to those who like it, makes perfect sense.
Should create a thread on hating certain foods due to the annoying people who like them, like Slice Bread, useless community.

No offense, but there is no requirement you adopt other people as friends or associates to like something they like. You probably like it for different, possibly opposite reasons.

To me it's just not worth it to look around at it and think "oh, no, important people will think I'm like THEM!"

Which, let's be honest now to save time, that's what you are doing. You aren't really worrying about them because they are doing you harm, you are worried about your self image.

I say this not to be cruel, but to remove the obvious trap your leg is caught in. Don't waste your time thinking like that.

People who assume things about someone who dresses up as Naruto? My advice, they aren't worth wasting spit on. You've put it exactly backwards courting their favor. If the guy in the Naruto costume is a jerk? That has nothing to do with the scratches on the animation cells or the mangaka, you, or anything but them.

Now if you don't like the artwork because you don't like the artwork, say if it's a pro-fascist propaganda piece or something, well that's fine. You can dispute if it still isn't somehow redeeming ( as you could argue for the movie 300. I wouldn't believe you, but whatever ), and that's fine too. But if you are not associating with 300 because fans dress nearly naked in sandals and that embarrasses you, well, I think you will quickly loose your sense of yourself surrendering everything you like every-time someone you don't agree with likes it.

Nah... I try not to let other people affect how much I enjoy some thing or not. If I did that I wouldn't be able to enjoy sports at all because 99% of the fans are massive jerks to each other.

I let the children (figuratively) piss and moan to other children (again figuratively) about what show is great and what show sucks. I will do that argument myself, in my own head.

Oh darn, the thread on the merits of "Variable Geo" and how it should have won an Academy Award needs some moderation. Be right back, gotta ban myself for yelling at myself. OUCH! that hurt, no punching allowed.

Well, at least it was just me against me in my head (I think I need real help *sigh)

Seriously, I could care less if a particular show has rabid fans. I usually don't get into such shows anyway. SAO, AoT, Naruto, Bleach, etc. just not for me. So I will let the people who think they are the greatest shows ever made duke it out like little kids on the playground. Of course I will stand up for a show I liked, but I will not get frothy in the mouth during my defense.

Anyway, it's all good. There has to be fanatics or else chances for other less mainstream popular shows would never get produced. So I'm glad the battles rage, but I will stay out of their cages. I'm too old to fight teenagers and young people in their 20s over anime shows (ok even people in their 40s may be too much for me also. Damn I'm getting up there ).

I watch what I watch, eat what I eat, and drink a lot of beer. Life is good.

None. I only hate things when they deserve to be hated. Of course, that doesn't mean I don't hate the fan-bases themselves. For instance, I think most of the Naruto fan-base is pretty awful and arguing with people from there is more work than it is worth since it is like talking to a brick wall (brick walls give more, though.) However, I don't hate Naruto because of them... There are PLENTY of legitimate reasons to hate the series all on its own without worrying about the fandom. XD

Well that, and the fact some don't seem to like having their show compared to others (I.E. Kannazuki no Miko).

An interesting subject. Though it's not an anime, at first I was confused when I realized one of my friends wasn't interested in watching Game of Thrones simply because everyone loved it. Now I can kind of get it - I think plenty of people get annoyed when a bunch of 'plebs' (lol) are showering unqualified praise on something, and it can be a real turn-off to those who are a bit hipsterish/elitist in outlook. Even if they do end up trying it, not only will it probably not live up to the inflated hype, but the person will be approaching it from a negative perspective and be more likely to find things to criticize in order to feel independently-minded and free-thinking rather than becoming part of the mob, and so vindicate their earlier skepticism.

Something else is that every show has flaws, and often popular ones have many. Elitists will tend to get annoyed when they see fans endlessly repeating how the object of their adoration is the best anime ever, and seeming to throw a fit whenever people point out the flaws. Admittedly their frustration tends to make elitists exaggerate the flaws and so really, it's a vicious cycle and you end up with the fandom of the show becoming even more paranoid and feeling besieged by haters, while its critics tend to become even more unforgiving towards the show and it starts to become more and more about their ego, in that the more they criticize the show, the more separate they feel from what they see as its raving idiocracy of a fandom. But then it becomes ironic because people who want to look smart just jump on the hater bandwagon without trying to form their own opinion, criticizing everything because of its source and rehashing arguments written by others before them.

Every fanbase has something annoying about them, but there is one that stands out by far.

One piece

Unlike the Naruto fanbase, The One piece fanbase can actually stand up for themselves and explain why One piece is the best anime ever created. They are surprisingly friendly towards people that dislike the show, so they'l even give you a free essay on why you should like it. They'l point out every quality it has, that other anime lack, until you go watch it. They'l even acknowledge your favorite anime, so you're more likely to go watch it. Unless they convinced you to watch or like it, they stop at nothing.

The way they express themselves is also often pretty clever and manipulative. When they talk about why One piece is better than other anime, they actually seems pretty logical and reasonable, but if you read between the lines, you'l notice how much they are secretly trash talking other anime to promote One piece.

Really now? Because when I gave an unbiased opinion about One Piece, I got down voted almost immediately and people replied to me like i didn't know what I was talking about. Sorry bud, but every fanbase has its flaws.
