It allows you to see a different somewhat realistic life aside from your own in a animated matter, As you could ask why do people watch shows such as Modern Family, Grey's Anatomy and so forth which are live-action, or The Japaneses Dramas if that is a better comparison. Basically Slice of Life is just appealing as an entertainment of realism after seeing counter less supernatural animated works.

Also I was like you once before, they bored me to death, but after accumulating roughly 60+ animes I began to rbanch out to other gneres and I noticed my tastes changing and beginning to appreciate the slice of life, namely the romance genres to become alot more appealing than I use to consider them. Hmm I think I am at 90+ after that change happened? somewhere around there. But that number is much too small for my liking, So branch into more genres.

right. but if wanna expand my library i start watching older shows usually. i have a fascination with the old animation styles. but if they have more shows like master of killing time seki-kun then ill watch

Ah see now that is your taste, but this is your CURRENT taste, it will continually develop over time, I lost my liking to old animation after being spoiled I just cant go back to old animation styles, unless it is used in an post-modernist style right now to amplify the anime setting.
Also are you saying your current taste of slice of life is in heavy comedy and gag? Have you tried any romance yet?

yeah i love lauging. so if its hilarious ill watch. if its romance i need something to go with it like some drama or action. basquash is my favorite romance. like it cant be just some googly eye stuff

lmao i know. big 3 fanboys are the worst. their small librarys make them argue about one show all the time

Today, I skipped class to watch Love Live season 2. And they were arguing about Naruto again -_-. If they do that next time, I should just scream "MOEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!" as loud as possible

People who aren't fond of the way that their lives are currently going, or those who feel lost in life and are looking for some sort of direction may watch Slice of Life anime to help gain some motivation.

LOL i couldn't pass episode 10, I just gave up, they ruined every sense of basketball to me and the romance didnt help me at all, lol I hated every single character, but now that's just my opinion xD.

I don't know...I TRIED watching BECK, but the horrible portrayal of Americans in the first episode made me skip it altogether.

You'd think the Japanese would realize by now that not ALL Americans have blond hair, blue eyes, be absurdly rude to everyone around them, and ready to start a fight at the slightest offense.

maybe people can sympathise with those types of storylines and characters more easily than with other genres.

This is an interesting question. Is it possible to sympathize with a character like Goku, Naruto, Luffy, Killua, or Touma?
I get sympathizing with one of their realistic traumas or something, but in any of the action and violence is it possible to sympathize at all with rag dolls that fight each other with silly magic nonsense and almost never suffer consequences for murder?

i mean sympathizing is more like understanding their emotions and where they're coming from, so a character like eren you really understand why he wants to kill every single titan. someone like luffy , i mean he's a idiot so you aren't really supposed to match up with him. but naruto he was a loner trying to get some recognition, and its really a deep emotional feel for him

i love slife because they are just really enjoyable to watch, for the most part there isnt some heavy plot twist mixed into them (for the most part) and you don't really have to think about them, just watch what happens and share some love and laughs with the rest of the audience in the comment section lol.

and also, just because the characters go to a high school, does not mean it is classified as a slice of life.

the true meaning to a slice of life, at least in the entertainment industry, would be a show that depicts every day experiences in an individual. so shows that include any kind fictional scenarios aren't slice of life, not like it matter's in any real sense it is just a pet peave of mine when people call shows that arent slice of lifes, slice of lifes lol.

Its a change of pace for me. After all those action/sports animes that i watch i need to watch either to slice of life or comedy anime to relax from the tension/adrenaline that i got from the action/sport anime. That and it get tiring/boring watching the same old types of anime.

"Naruto needs attention" is what everyone should care about? Is he an infant or something?

You have to admit that you enjoyed the death of various characters from the series both good and bad. It was often dramatic and gave people more super powers. Is that sympathizing?

The point of an action anime is to give context to action scenes. Action scenes are thoroughly devoid of sympathy. People get excited when Naruto's friends die (especially if any gore is involved), they get excited when the big bad guy seems unstoppable, they get excited when the good guys seem like they're going to lose (even though they know they won't.) It's not sympathy. It's a Colosseum mind-set.

Giving them a reason to win is just another way of turning a character into an underdog. Should you be upset if a pro-wrestler loses a match? No, but some people strangely do. Is that sympathy? No, it isn't. It's disappointment or frustration. They feel like their predictions got cheated
