I'll start. Vino from Baccano. He shows up out of nowhere with an almost Shamalan-esque identity reveal. He derails the plot (no pun intended), and goes on to deafeat the charismatic, fun Ladd - the professional murderous thug - with skills developed from... being in the circus.

Look at that, the arrogant git.

So... who do you hate from shows you otherwise love? And, to set a couple of parameters: I don't mean villains who are intended to be disliked. It has to be characters who just draw your ire above the author's intention. And the character has to have a significant presence in the story - no running gag bit characters, please.

So, I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

Woah. No hating on Claire. The dude is just a boss like almost everyone else in Baccano! XD

Also, it wasn't just skills he learned at the circus. He was a contracted killer and information gatherer for a mafia family, and who learned torture methods from all around the world. He has plenty of... experience with dealing with people like Ladd. He just gained better acrobatic abilities from the circus, which obviously would train his body to peak performance.

ANYWAY!

Having a lack of villains is pretty tough on me... Most of the characters I vehemently hate are those that are obviously meant to be hated... Hm.

Well, here goes.

1. Most of the cast of Evangelion - Mostly because they are all pretty awful people for different reasons. My empathy for most of these guys is non-existent... Except Pen-Pen. He is awesome. However, I am torn on whether this was the intention or not... Hmm...

2. Sasuke, Itachi, Obito, and Naruto (Naruto) - It would take way too long to explain (a novel would be needed.) Let us just say that they all could have been really good characters, or were good characters, before really shitty writing ruined everything.

3. Marina Ismail (Gundam 00) - A wanna-be Relena Peacecraft. Except, unlike Relena who took a pro-active role and, you know, DID things in Gundam WIng, Marina doesn't do anything. Her assistant does more work than she does!

That is really all I can think of on the top of my head. Most of the rest comes from characters like Kyubey from Madoka, where they do a really good job of making me hate them on purpose. XD Also, I may have jumped the gun... Since the first two examples are not anime I can say I like any more at this point. Oh well. XD

Obviously the most loathsome anime character of all time from an otherwise near-perfect anime:
Suzaku from Code Geass.

Hmmm.... The Suzaku hate is still seemingly strong, despite many years passing since the end of R2. Suzaku is my second favorite anime character of all time, from my favorite anime of all time. There is nothing inherently wrong with Suzaku's character deserving of actual hatred. Feel worse for him than I do Lelouch, that is for sure.

Usopp from one piece. He is the only character on the whole show that make me want to stop watching ever time he gets some screen time. I love one piece . I've got the DVD collections and I've watched the ALL the episodes multiply times but I fricking hate him soooo much. To me his character is so useless. He is kinda like that filler arc that continuous animes always have that comes right when the anime is getting to the good part and nobody wants to watch it or enjoys it. He is weak, cowardly, annoying, and a liar. Unlike all the other characters who actually have some sustenance. I wish that Oda would get rid of him for good . The anime would be 100x better

I'll go for another one: Misa from Death Note. Her personality is that awful blend of sickly sweetness wrapped up in faux-gothy frills, and yet tries to make it look so desirably sexy. Also? Her constant disruption of KEIKAKU. At least Light is some weird alien hypergenius that allows him to work around such a huge plot-block.

WHAT?! Vino was a beast, and put Ladd , the "arrogant git" he was (honestly believing no one could be more insane than he was), in his place like he deserved, this world is Vino's to have.
He was the essence of a joker, everything about him oozed irrationality and that was glorious, have your read further into baccano? or limiting it to just the anime?

Okay, put it this way.

Imagine you have a story about a fox. The fox goes about on his merry way in the forest, doing things the fox does to survive, eating and foraging and scavenging what he needs, because he's a fox. Then a hare turns up. Normally, the fox would really easily kill and eat the hare, given how far above it in the food chain it is, but instead due to sudden bullshit writing the hare was actually in the circus and that means it's beating the fox up, even though by all rights, it should go the other way. In one fell move it's entirely subverted the point of being an animal. And then the hare gets an entirely unprecedented romance with Chane even though every other scene had shown her unwavering devotion to her father and then this guy just turns up and talks her out of it somehow and...

Sorry, I got lost there. Where was I? Er... yeah. Diabolus Ex Machina.

I will take that as a yes, you are limiting your view of Vino to just the anime then. Vino major swinger down the series, Ladd *poof*.

I don't know anyone else who hates Suzaku. Nothing to hate? Whaaaaaat?
He's an adamant traitor to his country, he betrays all of his friends as soon as it's convenient, he's completely self-righteous but changes all of his morals at the drop of a hat. He's the biggest hypocrite ever and does everything he can to stop Lelouch from winning liberty for his country. Honestly, what's to like about him?

Read what Orga777 replied to you. He wasn't a hare. He was a contract killer too.
