This is perhaps only barely related to anime and Japanese culture, though those familiar with Namiuchigiwa no Muromi-san (the somewhat recent mermaid anime) will recognize this character (Kowai!... Kowai!... Or was it the coelocanths that were saying this repeatedly in Muromi? Maybe it was the oarfish that was looking for work after the Ryuuguujo collapsed... Can't quite remember...). Anyway, it's an oarfish, and the Japanese name refers to it as a servant or messenger of the sea god. There seem to be a spate of recorded sitings recently, but this video of an actual living oarfish is perhaps the best I've ever seen. I think this is pretty cool, anyway...

They commonly roam the deepest depths of the world's oceans, so that was quite an elusive find!

Wow, I've always liked these, they look really beautiful, and a little bit scary as well. But I'd love to see one, these people truly were in the right place, at the right time. I really envy them.

Oar fish have always looked a little scary to me, but seeing one like this, they're kind of pretty to me now. That would be such an amazing encounter. They remind me of Chinese dragons.

WOW! Now that's crazy. Those HAD to be where the stories of "Sea Serpents" came from. Those and Squids tentacles.
