im looking for something along the lines of Attack on Titan, but with more emphasis on horror. Something with a surreal and dark feel to it.

Another, it's basically like Final Destination.

Shiki is pretty scary
.

Higurashi no naku koro ni
. The first episode is kind of boring, but once episode 2 kicks in it's gets amazing.

Dangan Ronpa. It's scary depending on the person and it's based on the VN, but overall it's very good.

Denpa Teki na Kanojo. It's really scary....

Mirai Nikki is basically like Hunger Games.

Perfect Blue is AMAZING.

Hell Girl. (All 3 seasons)

Any good Lovecraftian Mythos-inspired horror? Or just disturbing horror. I'm not so much into gore just for gore's sake, and I think that some of the best horror uses it lightly. Attack on Titan was alright, but it relied too much on death and disgust for emotional impact. I was something more disturbing, without going out and out gorn/body horror.

Should be in recommendations thread

Also, you want completely horror or horror elements?

Higurashi is the only one I can think of that is really good, complete horror.

Also shows like Evangelion and Berserk are pretty dark, not really horror though, more just really dark imagery.

Seriously?

Anyways, I don't particularly watch horror anime because I don't really like them, but I would 2nd Claymore.

Hmm horror. Not a very explored genre in anime. There was Another, but its not great imo. Dusk maiden of amnesia is sort of horror, but more romance and I dont think thats what youre looking for. Ghost hunt was solid but not especially dark.

Kara no Kyoukai is one of the best. They ditch jump scares pretty much entirely for visceral, emotional, victimization and horror. It's not a show about things going bump in the night, practically all of its horror is character-driven.

Another is Le Portrait de Petite Cossette, a three-part OVA series from 2004 directed by Akiyuki Shinbo. It also has next to no jump scares, and draws all its horror out of its characters, story, and Shinbo's cinematography.

Edit: I'm not sure I'd call either one scary, though, so maybe I'm off base a bit. They're more psychological, if occasionally creepy and blood-splattered, so it's almost more about what they make you think than experience.

Looks like you got some good suggestions. If you find yourself looking for recommendations in the future, please post in Recommend Me an Anime (stickied near the top of the Anime forum) instead of starting a new thread.
