In all seriousness. I would suggest catching up on the plot in one way (anime) or another (manga) Which may be hard if you found the anime boring or don't read manga.

But its pretty much like picking up One Piece at episode 200 and missing out on the Arlong Arc and Lougetown.

This is pretty much Fairy Tail continued. It would be weird and very much not the same if you havent seen the stuff before hand.

I don't see the logic really.

It's just not the same. You wont care about the characters in the same way.

It kinda saddens me that people give up too quickly. I found the first few episodes boring as well, but upon reaching the Phantom Lords arc and later Tower of Heaven arc, that changed for me. I still think the latter is one of the best arcs of the series. Though of course that's just my opinion, so whatever.

But yeah, if you want to watch S2, it'd be for the best to catch up either with the anime or the manga. S2 is a continuation, not a remake.

It's amazing (and sad) that NO ONE has mentioned one of the most obvious sources of information outside of reading the manga or watching the anime!

Hey guys,

So I've been somewhat interested in watching Fairy Tail for a while now. I've tried watching a few episodes from the beginning, but I just couldn't get into it. Part of my problem has been the pacing and the animation.

However, now that the newly animated series is coming out, is it okay for me to start there? I really don't want to have to catch up to almost 200 episodes. If I can just start from the new series, is there anything I should know before starting it? Or where do you guys think I can catch up with all the plot info quickly?

In my experience, every arc of Fairy Tail gets consistently more epic over time from where it starts.

But if you want a point to jump-in at it'd be episode 123, after the seven-year time-skip. And you can skip 125-150, since that's a (mundane) filler arc. So 123-124, 151-175, and you're caught up and in the thick of the Grand Magic Games.

Edit: You should be sure to read up on Jellal and Zeref, though.

Well it continues the story from the "first season", so yeah, you should really watch those 175 episodes.
They're great, most of it.

But reading the plot isn't as fun as reading either the manga or watching the anime, GAH.
*facepalms at anyone who tells the OP it's ok to just skip the first season*

yeah i'd either read the manga or watch the first part of Fairy Tail before getting into the new one. There will be a lot of references in the new season that you won't understand without having read/seen the previous chapters/episodes.

i haven't watched the anime in a long time but from my understanding it stays pretty close to the manga, so i think you'd be fine either way ^^

Watch the other 175 episodes first. If you can't do this because you find it boring, then I can assure you that watching it from the new episodes will bore you even faster, especially since you won't even know half of the cast. The second season continues from the first season, it is not on its own. It also is starting essentially in the middle of an arc, if you haven't watched it before, you will be utterly and completely lost in m opinion.

Personally, I started watching the show at episode 155 or 156 of the first series when it was coming out, watched a few episodes and got enough from context to generally follow the plot, *then* I went back and watched the earlier episodes. I didn't want to commit to watching a bunch of episodes without knowing if I would like the series. I understand people who think you should watch from the beginning, and I don't think they're wrong, but I think that you can probably get the tone of the show from the current series and, with some help from the Fairy Tail wiki, do alright as-is. I'm not saying it's the best way to watch the show, but it is possible. I think it's mostly a matter of personal preference: are you willing to be a little confused?

I watched the series in order, but I'm inclined to agree with imaginarycreatures. I think you can pick up the series around 123, skipping filler, and if you like it you can go back and watch the previous arcs one at a time.

The story has been building, but it's not very complicated. The main point of the older arcs would be to see the epic moments and pick up character backstories, which is great to know but you don't actually need them to follow the story.

I would recommend going back and filling in the older arcs even if you do decide to skip them right now, though.
