What do you think about hollywood and what they're doing?

Do you think anime has any influens over hollywood's blockbuster movies?

Do you think hollywood's blockbuster movies has any influens over anime?

I believe that hollywood as a whole is build up in a way where they make a movie and then remake it 20 years later for a new generation (Robo Cop, Godzilla etc.). There's not really any big remakes in that sense in anime ( But on the other hand anime hasn't been around for as long as Hollywood).

However last year we had a movie that no one has ever heard of called Pacific Rim and that movie had a large amount of influence from anime (to be specific the Mecha genre).

So what do you think... Is anime influencing hollywood or are hollywood influencing anime!?!

Well anime has been influencing hollywood with Ghost in the Shell inspiring filmmakers like James Cameron (you can see some influence in Avatar not too much though but it is there) and The Wachowskis (they also said Akira and Ninja Scroll influenced them too). But hollywood influencing anime? I'm not sure there might be influence but I can't really find it since the way anime and hollywood directs action is very different but there probably is some influence. But I reckon anime is influencing hollywood more.

Man I said influence too many times.

I just want to say that is a great way to market. Though sadly where I am, I don't got that quote on the DVD cover.

Though truth to be told they maybe shouldn't be too many quotes from James Cameron I mean hey what about The Wachowskis? They made Speed Racer after all the only Americanised anime that is really good IMHO.

OK, guess he takes a lot of inspiration from both anime and manga!

A bit off topic but... I see you got a Razer mouse, good choice! :P

I wonder why they didn't put that quote there... Maybe this version is newer and therefore the old version didn't get that quote !?!

Maybe it's because my country secretly hates James Cameron?

Anime has some influence in Hollywood, consider these films were influenced by anime:

Kill Bill / Ninja Scroll

Dark City / Akira

Black Swan / Perfect Blue

Inception / Paprika

There might be even more examples, but this is what comes to mind now.

I can't see where Hollywood has any influence in anime, but if it does I haven't noticed.

And you are right to assume that Hollywood regurgitates old movies for a younger audience, knowing that people have short memories and that younger people are less likely to delve into old B & W films or older movies in general. Makes it easy for the no talents that make these movie making decisions.

I also think a lot of American animation is influenced by anime.

Everything old is new again. Stories are recycled, updated, upgraded.

Samurai and knights in shining armor become mechanized suits, swords become beams of light, bullets become magnetically launched projectiles.

The demons and other critters that skitter around in the night become larger and more destructive.

Weapons and chemicals that cause major environmental damage become the hot topic.

Anime has certainly inspired many Hollywood types. As for the opposite, nah, it was easier to take old stories and animate them, than it was to do a live action.

As for Godzilla, they screwed up that first one, so they opted to try to make something more fan friendly.
Robocop was damn hilarious and good for it's time, and I'd hope the new one was decent, but have yet to see it.

Hollywood has also decided that each studio should release a movie with a similar story within a few weeks/months of each other, which is a disturbingly unoriginal trend.
