...I love how the guys responding to this are all 'Oh my god! A thread that doesn't relate to me in some manner?! Let me make it about my penis!'
because godforbid it not be about you for a change.....

Sorry this might be a bit off topic, but I kind of need to say it.

1. Dealing with erections in public is mildly embarrassing at most.
Periods can cause such severe pain it can literally make the individual unable to walk. It has made people vomit from the pain. Men tend to scoff at the notion since they do not have a uterus. so how I try to frame it is...guys....if you've ever had a kidney stone... imagine passing that stone. every single month. for a week. for around 40-50 years. (in all honesty I've known girls who have passed multiple kidney stones and also had painful periods..and they would rather have the kidney stones than the period pain.)
Basically, random boner does not equal severe muscle cramps, swelling, bloating and an organ literally shedding a layer of tissue and blood. Guys, if you want to get brownie points with girls..just..acknowledge they aren't making it up..or complaining for complainings sake. they might honestly be in large amounts of pain...and your siblings or girlfriends or just female friends will like it a lot better if instead of saying 'well guys have it bad sometimes too.....' ..just say 'are you okay? do you need me to get you anything?' ....offer to grab them a candy bar, or a hot pad, or just a hug.
stop. no. don't argue this. trust the female. trust all the females that get extremely angry when you make light of their periods. theyre not being moody and hormonal. you're just being dung.

And to the person who asked, while orgasms may not shorten a period, there is some evidence that masturbation and orgasms can help relieve some of the pain associated and POSSIBLY help shorten it. so hey guys, if she wants to, that might be another way to help out. wink wink nudge do it in the shower tho'

Oh, also girls who have bad cramps (that isn't endometriosis) you might want to check to see if you're deficient in any vitamins or minerals.
Also, exercise may help some cramping symptoms and other issues, for women of any body type. Squats in particular may help women, since there is some evidence that countries that have squat toilets have lower rates of uterine cancers.
(smaller tip, if you take pain medication for cramps, remember that aspirin, ibuprofen, and tylenol are all different things and if one doesn't work well for you, that doesn't mean another won't. Just be careful to read labels and make sure you're not allergic to any of them)

Okay getting past all of that, my personal symptoms are admittedly fairly light and the worst of my cramps are usually just the occasional wince. My period is also pretty short and light. Which makes my friends who have the...agonizing 'killmeplease' cramps hit me in jealousy... I do however get ~migraines~ with mine, which is another fun bonus :D
I'd say about a 1-4 in a 1-10 scale. (I use pads because I knew someone who got toxic shock from tampons and I KNOW it is extremely rare and can only happen in certain conditions but the concept still freaks me out. I use the... Let It Go method instead.)

But what's worse, a girl's cramps or the pain a guy gets when he's kicked/hit in his private regions???

Good question!
In terms of the average period related cramp, getting kicked in the groin is more painful for guys!
The difference is, it is a fleeting pain. By fleeting, I mean it usually does not last for more than an hour or two...maybe part of the day if it is really bad. (If it lasts longer than that, boys, you might want to see someone about that.)
Again, periods can last up to 8 days. Cramps could last that entire time, and possibly even before it during PMS.

second point is, most men can do things to avoid getting kicked in the groin. not all obviously, there are pranks and accidents and things and honestly my heart goes out to the undeserving man who gets unfortunately injured. I offer you an icepack and a hug and maybe a beer if you're old enough.
but again, chances are..most guys aren't getting continuously kicked in the balls for the majority of a week, every months, for the majority of their life.

If you use your abdominal muscles when you're not on it, it won't hurt so much when you get it.

Come on ladies, let's get some jackknife sit ups and ball exchanges goin! *starts clapping*

Thank you.

Anyways, I have pretty irregular periods. About once every other month. Typically only lasts for half a week. Cramping is usually about a 3, and I don't get super moody, just a little tired. I use pads.

Pads! Never tried a tampon, the thought kind of freaks me out.

My cramps change all the time. Sometimes I don't even feel anything, and other times my back and stomach hurts so much I can't get out of bed.

Always keep your feet warm, girls!

I'm lucky enough to have had early menopause during my late teen years so I do not have periods at all any more. Can't say that I miss them either.
