That's expensive so get the bootleg....

Well, the reason it's more expensive, is because of the quality. I'd much rather pay more for a legit, and well crafted item, rather than a cheap, badly crafted item. Bootlegs might look like the real deal at first glance, but when you look at it up close, you normally notice the errors one by one.

It says you are 13. I am going to assume you are 13, obviously you've never had a job and never had to truly earn money (sorry baby sitting does not count, chores does not count) and don't seem to understand that someone has to work very very hard to make the anime/manga you like, they spend alot of time creating a concept and predrawing and outlining a series... this person then works their 455 off to get a publisher to pick up their work. Then they might get paid for all their hard work and royalties will slowly trickle in (they probably make less than 10% on each item sold).
As someone who works very hard to support myself, I know the value not only of money but one's intellectual property.
It may make more sense one day when you are working to support your own self, pay for bills, own a house/rent an apartment, go off to college, etc.

You have to think of the end result of bootlegs. People that want to see official anime goods to lose production wouldn't mind people buying bootlegs. Of course, one can argue that then the market could be taken by a sea of cheap fake unofficial goods, but who does that support? Imagine the decreased quality of bootlegs when they don't have things to copy...

Anyways, if it is a fake that sucks, topic creator. I don't own the original or have knowledge on it to pass judgement. If it is found to be - do they have a policy at that store on the issue? I imagine by how they are described, if they are selling illegal products then they would know it.

14383421 it does suck. I just wanted to ask the community what they thought about the authenticity of a piece of merch. that I was unsure of.
I never asked about a return policy at the store, and don't recall seeing a "no returns" sign, But since I already opened the package to look and the item I feel a bit bad about taking it back. But also feel cheated that I bought a bootleg Item instead of supporting* the content creator like i wanted.

* Like I am trying to do by paying for a Cr sub, instead of say.... watching fan subs or rips of Funi/hulu/cr videos.

Most nendoroids actually cost around 30$. Mostly depending on how many accessories they come with. 65$ is the price you can expect to see on sites like eBay and so on, which is also the place you'll be most likely to come across bootlegs.

Chores may not count, but babysitting surely does. When I was in high school babysitting and tutoring paid for my gas, and even now it helps pay my bills and groceries. besides kids are certainly a handful... how can that not be considered work

as for bootleg item... well.. it's happened to me before haha. It sucks but oh well, just shrug it off and be more careful next time.

If you're looking for an official AoT necklace you might want to check out GE Animation since they're making a lot of merchandise for it (All official) http://www.geanimation.com/InfoOnly/characters_list.aspx?CharacterID=314 RightStuf sells their products so you should be able to buy them there once they get listed.

Pretty sure I've never paid 65 for a nendoroid. Sounds like you're pulling random stuff out of the air to support a (poor) stance.

I know that feeling of realizing the item you bought is a bootleg. It happened to me a long time ago when I unknowingly bought some bootleg Jrock/Jpop CDs from a brick and mortar anime store at a mall. What's odd is that the store also sold legit stuff.

Anyway here are some guides for looking out for bootlegs:

http://anime.about.com/od/animecollectibles/ht/bootlegdvd.htm

http://inside.anime-expo.org/ax-scoop/featured/2010-07/recognize-and-report-bootleg-anime-goods/

http://www.animecornerstore.com/faq.html#1-5

That reminds me...

Last month when I was at a nearby Japanese supermarket, I went inside a hobby store that was inside the store just to look around. Then, I stumbled on this figure

Yeah, I wonder how that got into the store.

Kinokuniya has a pretty good selection of goods. I remember there was some Touhou stuff at the Kinokuniya nearby me.

Come on, I own bootleg pricy purses! No way I am going to spend over $100.00 on a MK purse, etc.!
