so my friend fixed his lips to say that, Bakemonogatari and The world god only knows are the exact same anime. Thoughts on this statement

Well this goes to prove that some people are just too far gone to save.

I suppose they basically are. I mean if you simplify the explanation enough you could pretty much say : Teenage boy bound to a female demon saves a myriad of highschool girls from other demons while having them fall in love with him. That would be an apt explanation of both series.

I would say that the only thing that makes them similar is their harem tropes. Supernatural sub themes may tie the series closer together, but overall, they are quite different.

Araragi Koyomi doesn't need to make them fall in love with him to save the girls, it just happens LOL.

They are and aren't harems. I would say neither is your standard harem really.

For sounding similar in a synopsis they are in fact about as different as you can get if you watch them.

Sure they are comparable when you look at the plot connections, but that's a pretty blind point of view.
I mean, who cares about the plot in the monogatari series anyway? The interactions alone in Bakemonogatari is way too unique to be compared to anything.

But Monogatari does have a plot, a really good one! It is just tough to see when Koyomi isn't flipping skirts and kissing lolis... he really does just have one main girl. It is classic harem in that regard, the rest are really also-rans and that's obvious from the first book/cour in Bakemonogatari but that doesn't stop him from taking advantage of the fact that the rest of them pretty much want him too, aside from perhaps the one relationship that fans really wanted though she got her kiss as well after a lot of just head pats though... oh, I'm going to spoil the final season if I'm not careful.

They both have plots and there are almost no connections, none at all. The only similarity is that they both want to save the heroines but how and why he saves them is completely different. What happens after he saves them is completely different. Harem with a lead who wants to save the girls is the only similarity. He needs to make them love him in TWGOK while they love him already in Monogatari, in fact he needs to tell them no without them killing him in several cases which is completely backward from Keima.

The similarities are only surface level. If you look at them any deeper you'll see that there is little in common between them. But if you are ignoring the plot of Monogatari (Which is easy to do), then I can see why you'd think it is just about a guy and some girls in which case most anime are exactly the same.

I would question if your friend even watched either series, or just a synopsis for both. And if he did watch them, I would severely question his comprehension.

I'm having a hard time coming up with even superficial comparisons.

I've only watched a couple episodes of TWOGK though.

It might a good investment of your time to finish it. It gets weird. In a good way.

eeeh...

I dunno, I might.

I'm sure the attention is well deserved but it's not the kind of show that's high on my priorities list.

I will say this though. I love me some character development. Isn't someone who is only interested in 2-D supposed to be our hero?
