...They have some of the same core elements and a couple of plot elements are similar but their tones and overall goals are nothing alike. If I had to characterize TWGOK as something I would say that it is more of a parody then anything. It uses common archetypes and tropes coupled with a protagonist who is 'aware' of all these things, but at the same time it has a lot of character development that extends beyond these tropes making it something else that I utterly adore.

The Monogatari series on the other hand is much more focused on character interactions and dialogue.... and that's pretty much it. Well to be fair while I think the main point of the series is the dialogue and character interactions, a lot of the characters do have really good development and character arcs particularly in second season two of the character arcs remove the protagonist from them and allow the character to grow on their own. It also has this creepy and awkward tone (mostly due to the characters themselves having rather creepy and awkward personalities) that I just love.

All in all both of them are amazing series that definitely deserve a watch and while some parallels can be drawn between them, but ultimately their very different series.

I've only watched a couple episodes of TWOGK though.

Watch at least season 1 and 2 whenever you have time. Skip season 3 if you want, it wasn't that good except for the ending. #pissedoffmangareader

I always thought season 3 was when the show got really interesting. I haven't read the manga so this is just my thoughts on it.

On topic : The two shows are comparable to a certain extent, but if I was to compare TWGOK to any anime, I would say the new flag anime (can't remember the name) that is airing now would be more similar.

so my friend fixed his lips to say that, Bakemonogatari and The world god only knows are the exact same anime. Thoughts on this statement

...and that's all I gotta say about that (forest gump voice).

Its ok for some but I think they tried to focus too much on getting the third season into the climax that they ignored a lot of what made the first two seasons great aka getting to know the girls first.

Cut out a big chunk of character development arcs, especially for 2 of the goddess hosts. They just kind of show up after a 30 second montage lol.
