i think they definitely have there place in the anime world and i dont mind them that much but in some cases it crazy like in naruto 227 of the 581 episodes are filler (39%)

http://www.narutohq.com/naruto-shippuden-fillers.php

i dont mind them when its at the end like naruto when the last 70 episodes are filler and can be skipped or watched later so i doesnt subtracted from the watching experience but when later on in naruto shippuden they stop during action scenes to tell back stories especially during the ninja war and i feel annoyed and i dont enjoy the series as much.

i understand they there to let the manga catch up and to keep episodes coming out since the demand is so high and so they can make money to keep there business going (since it is a business after all) but surly there is a better way of doing so.

but i was wondering what your guys opinions are i know the general consensus is that they are not welcome but im sure many peoples favourite episodes are from filler since they create some of the more wacky scenes like goku and piccolo trying ti learn to drive or The baseball episode in Samurai Champloo. i only used Naruto as an example to show case how i feel it should be done eg 60 episodes+ in a row so its easy to skip .then how it shouldn't be done like during the middle of a fight take 4 or 5 episodes to talk about there back story or past events when its not really that important

id like to hear some examples of good and bad filler episodes and there placement/ effect on the story

thanks for reading id love to hear your opinions on the matter

The one naruto filler that really bugged me: the "power" side arc. 2 main reasons it bugs me: 1) It was an awesomely animated filler with a very interesting story. I mean seriously in all honesty it held my attention more than most of the episodes. But that also leads into my next reason......... 2) It was completely bullcrap in regards to Naruto canon. Seriously, Kabuto showed that he could use the Impure Ressurection before the Shinobi War?! You are really going to put that storyline in?! When I was little I didn't know what 'filler' was or that episodes like this weren't canon. So thank goodness I'm older now because I would've questioned the entire plot saying: "Why are the other ninja so surprised someone summoned the dead for the war? Didn't Kabuto already show them he could do that???" Filler like that is a complete leach and troll to anime society. Filler, however, are not all bad. Just the example I used. /endrant

Kinda bored by the Kakashi war backstory right now (unless those are not fillers) but seriously any flashbacks that take more than one episode is a pain in the ass. Flashback shouldn't be used in this way IMO.

It's meant to be used in fragments to tell us more about a certain character, not freaking make an arc out of flashbacks-_-

yeah although i find it interesting and he looks badass during most of it i dont enjoy it as much since im just waiting to get back to the story that they just left i like naruto but they make it hard to watch sometimes although it should be better since the manga is supposed to finish in early 2015 so there will be less filler (hopefully)

yeah i think its weird that they dont put as much effort into some fillers as they should do you think one of the writers wouold be able to point out simple flaws or plot holes . short/smaller budget anime seem to be less likely to take liberties or drag things out and you can tell when someone cares for there work or hasnt been forced to change anything by there boss or investors just to make money

They're called fillers for a reason. They're meant to fill the time slot in order to push out more chapters of the manga, not make a fantastic episode lol. Though in regards to Naruto Shippuden, I have no idea why we are sitting through fillers right now when we are in leagues behind the manga...^.^

They're useless if you marathon the anime.

I usually don't mind filler unless it's boring or the placement of the filler in the show is weird. They can be done well like that one episode in Aot or some episodes of the world god only knows (there's probably better examples out there, these just happen to come to mind). Consistency with the rest of the show is a big plus.
For me, the best filler are the ones you didn't even know was filler.

Depends. If it's being put to good use e.g. to flesh out characters and develop them, then yes they're okay. But when you get the characters doing pointless stuff that really adds nothing other than you seeing another episode for that week then yes they're bad.

Also, if a show has too many filler episodes instead of following the main story they're also bad because it shows the writer lacked ideas to push the main story forward so decided to artificially push out the length with pointless shit. It's not so bad when you marathon a show or generally watch one that's already finished, but when you wait a week and get something that didn't need to be there then it's significantly more annoying.

Beach episodes particularly annoy me, at least when they're only used as an excuse to say 'hey guys, look at all the sexy things we're making happen to the characters!'. If I want to watch hentai, I'll watch hentai, I don't go to the beach episodes for my teenager-y, testosterone fuelled, trouser-tent making kicks. I want story not softcore porn filled with an overabundance of white lights, steam, and conveniently placed setpieces.

Fillers are great, especially the mandatory swimsuit/onsen episode. But if there's too many of them like in most long running series, they really get annoying.
Luckily my favorite genre is slice of life, where the series are pretty much based on "fillers". ^w^

If you dont read the manga and the filler is truly interesting, dont sweat it, the story will come soon enough. I guess just enjoy the filler even though in some animes it might bring inconsistencies in the plot for certain shounens, but anywhere else you shouldn't have a problem

well if your going to go through the whole series you can normaly find a list of filler and skip it i find its worse when you wait all week for the episode just to get disappointed

Those are not fillers. Those are gifts from the Anime Gods. There is a difference my friend.

I think they're fun and offer more time for character development.
