Fillers are great, especially the mandatory swimsuit/onsen episode. But if there's too many of them like in most long running series, they really get annoying.
Luckily my favorite genre is slice of life, where the series are pretty much based on "fillers". ^w^

Those are not fillers. Those are gifts from the Anime Gods. There is a difference my friend.

Guh! How could I have thought so wrongly of them!? I thank you for the enlightenment. /(_ _)\

Personally don't mind filler episodes I just don't like the way they handle filler episodes at times. The current filler episodes in Naruto is actually very well done but at times they have filler episodes that make me wonder if the studio is even trying.

It depends on the anime and how it's done obviously. They are not inherently bad or good, like everything else it depends on how they are used, most of the time they are average. One Piece has great fillers, they are small(about 14% of the anime), take place in between arcs for a nice cool down between arcs, are enjoyable often giving the characters more screen time, and I believe actually increase my overall enjoyment of the series. I even look forward to them when I rewatch the series. Bleach's were bad, almost half the anime(49% IIRC) was filler, they placed them during an arc often interrupting important parts for a 20+ episode arc(hell if you were watching it airing), and they were overall just not enjoyable.

Well I'd like to hear your idea, it's a multi billion dollar a year industry IIRC, if you know a better way than I think they'd be glad to know.
And them going off the air until they have enough material is not a good way as it lowers the amount of money they make in the short term and means that they have to relinquish their timeslot(which could have a big effect on how much money they make long term and short term). Not saying that you were going to say that, but that is a common thing for people to say.

well obviously they wont just stop making episodes and go off air (especially when its a huge show in high demand)but maybe (this is how id like them to do it)they could plan ahead better so the filler episodes take place in a less critical time like in between arcs or at the start to help with the pacing of the show and not after everything has been built up then to come to a screeching stop and end up damaging the experience.

If Naruto/Shippuden didn't have fillers, how short in episodes would it be?! The same goes for Bleach and One Piece.

The problem with Filler is that it ALWAYS grinds the story to a complete stop and goes off on tangents of its own. Also, almost all Filler I have seen is down right dreadful in execution and story by itself, and can lead to an anime ending outright with never finishing (this happened with Rurouni Kenshin, which had a whole season of dumb Filler that officially killed off any chance for the Jinchu Arc to be animated...) I hate Filler... However, I understand the necessity of it for the most part. If I want to watch the anime version of long-running series, I will just skip around and wait till the Filler is over.

I agree with that, and actually came here to say that. In all honesty I actually like the Bount arc, and also the (prepare your weapons) Shūsuke Amagai arc (you may now attack, but do know that, due to poor entry on my part, it was actually my first bleach anime arc), but it did become ridiculous after the third interruption or so.

Filler episodes are not that bad only if they are not placed at the peak of the plot. I usually just skip on filler episodes and watch if later after the the whole thing or if I have nothing else to watch.

bleach fillers. bleach fillers are always either somebody shopping or a pool episode. or shopping and pool/beach. people hate fillers because they come at the wrong time.

I believe they already do try and do that most of the time. But like with Bleach, it has large arcs and a fairly fast pace. They would have had to put a filler arc for over a year before one of the big arcs in order to have less filler throughout. For filler arcs(10+ episodes), not that many interrupt an arc, only Bleach from my experience. One Piece, Naruto, and some of the others may have had some small couple of episode "arcs" in the middle of an arc, but it was usually just an episode or two of comedy.

The second half of the bount arc is fine, but the first half was copied from a Yu Yu Hakusho arc and they did a bad job. I agree, believe me, I was watching it weekly since around episode 112. I was there for over 100 episodes of filler IIRC. Worst thing is it takes away all enthusiasm you had for what comes next. At like 310 I had already lost my drive to watch it so I just left it until it ended.
