I imagine the resources it would take to remake the game to current standards would take ages, i mean look how long the current games take to make!
Saying that, people would still eat up a FF7 remake anyway - including myself!

I guess a remake of this game is too much to ask for, anyway. If Square Enix was interested, they would have done it by now.

People the PC version has been updated a little and is availible on steam. Yes it would be nice to have a bigger update, but then that would only inspire people to want a Xenogears remake too. WE CANNOT HAVE THAT NOW CAN WE?!

Exactly. Leave VII alone. I don't even know if I want a remake since this game is pretty good. I don't want Square Enix to mess it up.

Well they are doing HD Remakes of the KH series and so far they are doing a great job on that so I don't think they would mess up.

I'm actually in education to become a game developer... And let me tell you a secret, they would never be avail to make a ffvii remake with that budget.

Final Fantasy x was a full on 3d game from the start and as such the ps2 retail version have a lower textured version, meanimg that square only applied a higher texture on the new game. Then there's also things like high polymodelels and polycount... I won't go into detail.

Now if you compare this to vii then square would've to hire new composers and sound directors only to make the sound, well... Sound like a game released in this console cycle. Then we've also got the fact that they would have to hire motion-capture actors to make animations look fluid and up to today's standards. But that's not all, they would then have to remake all environments and characters in both higher poly and texturing.

FFX/X-2 Remastered was actually quite the visual upgrade. Thought it was barely better, especially when looking at character models for side characters like Barthello (or something) and Dona.

...Then I loaded up the game on PS2 and that opened my eyes.

And I agree with the fact that FFVII is nostalgia driven. I played the new (not really) PC version at a friends house for a couple hours and wow. A game can be good when it comes out but I wouldn't necessarily call it timeless. FFVII is a story-driven game, but all FF have heavy focuses on gameplay itself. The gameplay here was pretty meh....and the graphics, holy hell. At this moment in time, I think I have more fun with any Fabula Nova Crystallis FF (FFXIII franchise, etc) than FFVII. That's right, I just said that, I better put a bar of soap in my dirty mouth. Plus I've played through the story a couple times so it really doesn't invoke any feelings or intrigue from me anymore.

I remember SE said they won't do it because to make a HD game on the scale of FFVII would cost a lot of money. Which I find to be horseshit since their MMOs probably cost more than anything. Also a Vita or 3DS remake would offer better graphics without breaking the bank.

yeah a HD version no, a Remake hell yeah that would be awsome but i doubt that they would do this because they cant even get 15 out it been in development for too long.

Highly doubt they will make a remake of Final Fantasy VII.

Square Enix would probably do a remake of Final Fantasy VI for the 3DS, where that system is widely popular in Japan. Also, the RPG scene is doing really well. Bravely Default sold 450K units in Japan in total. The demographic for handhelds is where Square Enix would look towards any remake.

The fanbase of FFX in Japan is equivalent to the fanbase of FFVII in NA or so I once heard.
But with that it makes sense to remake FFX, being the most popular of the series where the company is located.

IMHO They'e afraid of screwing it up and turning off the loyal FFVII fanbase. IMO it can and prob will happen, but only if and when the stars align. Everything must be perfect. Money, project team, nothing gets rushed before its perfect. Chrono Trigger , for instance had not only dbz's Akira Toriyama for character design but a dream team from square and enix a decade before they merged to form square-enix. I think it will make millions if they can pull it off.

I think an HD version of FF7 wouldn't work. If they were going to re-release FF7, then a remake would be a smarter idea overall. The limitations of the PS1 would make things too difficult to the point that I doubt a HD remaster could actually be done. The Resident Evil remake for GameCube is a good example of how to remake a PS1 game.

Now there is a game related to FF7 that I would LOVE to see get an HD upgrade to home consoles or at least the Vita...Crisis Core. I seen someone on YouTube showcase the game's cutscenes in HD and, even with the muddy textures, the game still looked gorgeous. Just clean up those textures, add some items and tweaks to the battle system and maybe some extra boss battles and secrets and it will be one hell of a great HD remaster.

G-Bike might be the first step to a remake... Too bad it's a laggy, disappointing runner.

I seen these topics over and over again. Personally, yes they could have done it. It probably would have taken them like 10 years of course, and none of the fans would be satisfied since it would become a different game. Square Enix is not who they used to be, and it was Square Soft that made this game. You can't just completely reproduce someone else's work. I mean if we all just wanted updated graphics, you could just play a modded FFVII on the PC. However Square Enix would not just modify the graphics, they would introduce some new aspect to the game like voice acting or some sort -- which would make the game different. Personally I think them remaking FFVII is too much pressure. They really need to regain back their reputation and focus on their current titles so they don't fail flat out (especially since they are betting on XV so much now).
