Crunchyroll rocks. haha. I bet the mods are really happy about the comments on this thread but seriously, I agree that people here are way more nicer compared to other sites probably because we share a common interest here, and its not as public as other social sites.

Well everybody here is a fan of the same thing...with gaming sites, console wars continually break out, with Youtube theres huge differences of opinions. I don't think we have as much reason to argue here, although things can get heated if certain topics arise.

Communities shape how people act, moderators play a role in it. I can browse a few YouTube videos for gameplay footage and in the comments I can often find someone telling another to die, usually in a self caused way. In Final Fantasy XI, at least on my server, if you were rude on a server forum people knew and you were shunned (theoretical, I can't remember a single instance of someone being vicious even in game without a swift ban) and if you're rude on the League of Legends forums chances are some people would comment saying, "good one" or something similar along with down votes.

I saw a complaint yesterday about someone, that I have said that I like his topics, about moderators closing his topics (fairness). If moderators didn't close things once things were getting heated then people would go on a rampage of nastiness. I'd rather have it this way than let the forum go to how the original post makes it sound.

Back in the old days was the worst. There were a lot of wannabe mods and others were just kissing the mods' ass.
Some mods were sassy, while other mods you tickle their favors by peeking on their master phD studies/interests.

so I've been noticing that people are more polite on crunchyroll than other web sites I use. youtube is about the worst I have seen, with fights breaking out, swearing, calling others names, and even bring up the said persons mother. another website I use quite frequently is the Escapist. this ones not as bad because usually it's not childish name calling (I guess because it can be posted to facebook) but a lot of arguments still break out, some being as long as 10 paragraphs (after 3 I stop reading). but here on crunchyroll I don't see that, I guess I haven't really looked deeper into the form posts.

So what are your thoughts?

Besides some people I have met on here previously who think they understand everything about Japanese culture, this forum is filled with pretty decent people. I attribute it to the belief that people who watch anime tend to take away life lessons from the anime. I know it may sound corny but anime has actually changed some of my views on life and the way I treat people. Heck, the way I treat myself even and that I need to respect and believe in who I am. That's why, in my opinion, people on here are the way they are. Plus, we are just really passionate about our hobby and love to have people to talk about it with.
