Are you fair? Do you want other people to be fair? Why should they?

Honesty, I'm not fair. I won't give anybody a disadvantage to deal with because of certain aspects, but I'll give advantages to people because of certain aspects. As in, if I'm a bouncer I won't deny anyone entrance because of the way they look, but someone who looks attractive might get in faster.

Also? Makoto! I'm calling you out! I did all these threads the same way, if you're going to close one for it, close them all for it! Even the ones that have people on them! Be fair, man. Be fair. Or let me bring it back. Your choice. Now I know what you're thinking. Did he shoot five bullets....or six?

So, how do you feel?

I like to be fair in everything I do.

Especially in board games.

I try to be as fair and unbiased as possible, but I am human. It's unavoidable to have preferences.

It would be nice if the world was fair. Then things wouldn't be quite as mucked up. But life doesn't work that way.

As long as someone isn't being a total dick to others while chalking it up to "life isn't fair", then I don't see a huge problem with it. It all depends on circumstance.

I like to be fair as often as I can, but being human I'm obviously not always fair. Everyone will have a bias of some kind. As for whether I want others to be fair it depends. If being unfair gets a harmless laugh out of something then okay, but if it's going to cause problems then no. Why should they be? Because the opposite would be to always be unfair and most people know that's a bad thing.

Being treated truly fairly is probably akin to facing true justice... you won't like it!

No, I am not stating you should go around treating people worse they than deserve; rather I am encouraging you to treat people better than they deserve because frankly you wouldn't like it if you were treated as you deserved. Likewise I've learned to seek justice tempered by mercy.

I'm very fair, I do have my days just like everyone else, but I am a very sensitive person so I am far to nice sometimes.
I would love for other people to be fair, but this generation is getting more jaded and insecure every day. It's really sad to see, but growing up I was always a very generous and kind kid.

I used to be a fair minded person, giving people the benefit of the doubt... Now days, not so much... People are more often than not assholes and it has been getting worse.

I also found that if you try to be truly unbiased and you tell people the truth about themselves or their beliefs they get pissed. I've had this trouble all my life. My relatives would get angry as hell when I would point out the "other person's" viewpoint...
I stopped looking at people and "good-guys" and "bad-guys" about the time I was six or seven. Now days I sum it up as "those people are f*cked up and so are those people."
You have enemies and allies and they can trade places at the drop of a hat depending on your economics or your politics.
Add to that the simple fact that most people are totally ignorant of not only their faith or lack thereof but also so much of their politics... they never read or investigate anymore... It's like people have been suckered by the same thinking that I had 20 years ago, that people/pundits will say something that they agree with, then they will just take it on faith that everything else they say is good too....
That kind of thinking is horribly wrong.

I'll add this, if you don't like it when "it" happens to you, why would you think others would like "it" when it happens to them? Thinking from the other person's perspective does take a bit of concentration and intelligence.... Think of that as a backhanded challenge... perhaps?

Benevolence comes to mind.

The general consensus of this thread seems to land on the fact that life isn't fair, nor should it be. This may be a recurring theme of another forum post of mine, but I try to stress it:

Life, as it always has been, is today, and always will be, is a competition...an ugly one at that.

Since mankind has overcome so many of it's most primal survival needs as a whole, we are now granted a unique opportunity to, in essence, brush our excess winnings off unto the less fortunate competitors.

SHOULD WE?

Well...sure, why the heck not? Benevolence, after all, has taken it's place in history as a signifying trait of great men, and what four year-old hasn't wanted to be the king/queen, the hero, the knight? Unfortunately, many of our predecessors have not been the fortunate ones, thus raising us to be wary of our contemporaries; rather than seeking their brotherhood, we ostracize them, believing the stalwart individuals, hoarding their winnings, are the only ones fit to succeed.

....what were we talking about again? D:
