So today as I'm sure many of you know the 2nd Attack on titan OVA was released. Will Crunchyroll ever upload these OVA's?

I know Crunchyroll has uploaded some movies/OVA's to series such as the Sword Art Online movie. I know most of it has to do with legal issues but what I don't get is how a Crunchyroll is able to stream the whole series of Attack on Titan but doesn't release any OVA's. Is it more of a licensing problem or is it just Crunchyroll's choice to not upload these OVA's?

Either way, I'm hyped about how Crunchyroll can stream Fairy Tail and One Piece now considering I still haven't finished One Piece (Actually faaaaar from it) and the fact Fairy Tail is one of my favorite series. So yeah, any insight on this whole OVA thing?

From what I understand, CR doesn't license directly from the studio or production committee, but from whoever in Japan has the rights to broadcast the anime, right? OVAs that are bundled with manga, or put on the web, aren't broadcast.

So I think there's a disconnect there, unless I'm misunderstanding the system. I'm pretty sure the SAO and Mushishi OVAs were televised, and other things that weren't have all been things picked up later on as part of CR's back catalog.

tl;dr, I don't think CR has ready access to license something that isn't being televised.

But I could be wrong, or there might be exceptions.

I have been wondering the same thing. I have been looking around other sites for news as well.

It'd be nice to have more OVAs on here. They have some.

I would guess the reason that CR doesn't have other OVAs is because of licensing issues, which I'm not even going to pretend to know anything about.

By paying extra money via monthly subscription I'm assuming? Uhh... No. I can see where your getting at but it doesn't hurt to have a few more OVA's somewhere even if it costs a little extra to stream. I'm sure it attracts more users anyway.

I'm with Insomnist here. I believe since OVA are usually bundled with the DvD/BR or Manga, CR's licensing doesn't include them since CR's licensing as far as I have seen is strictly what is aired on TV.

If it airs on TV and FUNi or another site doesn't get it, CR can grab it. But as far as I know, OVA is rarely aired on TV.

moved to feedback. Maybe the brand managers will be able to give some info on this.
