The one that initially got me watching anime was Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex on Adult Swim, as thats the first one I watched, and what got me to be interested. But the one that is responsible for keeping me was Inuyasha, which also brought me into subs with the ending series.

It was sailor moon/pokemon

Those two shows used to come on a local channel when I was like 9 years old

After watching those two some I stumbled upon dragon ball z on toonami

I had always been into martial arts so seeing anything with fighting in it had me hooked but as I started to get more into anime I started to appreciate non action anime too

My very first anime was Loveless. Weird place to start, right? I actually started with the manga after seeing a friend read it, and I loved it (pun intended) enough that when I came across the anime version, I decided to give it a go.

That said, what really got me interested in anime itself wasn't a series at all. It was Ghibli movies. I remember watching Spirited Away on Cartoon Network when I was little, and I loved it. Once my friends started getting really into anime, I was still on the fence about it, but I remembered how much I loved Spirited Away and decided to look up a few anime movies on the web. I watched sooo many Ghibli films in one sitting. They were addicting. Those movies were what really made me decide to give anime a chance.

The series that got me truly addicted to all things anime was Death Note. I was obsessed with that show. It literally took over my life for a good year or two.

The one anime that started it all for me was one movie that my grandparents had bought for me on VHS(I know, "What's that?" Ask your parents, kids -_-) before I was even born and it hooked me from the time I pooped out of the womb. That anime was a Studio Ghibli film by the name of, "My Neighbor Totoro." Since then, I have been a fan of anime and the culture as a whole. I guess you could say my grandparents knew it was my destiny to become an anime nut

First I ever watched was Dragon Ball Z, (even before Pokemon and Digimon if you can believe it). However, I never touched anime after YTV stopped airing it. Then like 4 years ago I decided to watch DBZ until I got half way and realised there was a prequel series before DBZ called "Dragon Ball". That was the first one I finished. Also DB/Z are the only ones where I watched literally everything they produced, filler, movies, specials, etc. DBZ will always be my favorite and in my opinion the greatest anime EVER!

I guess my first anime was Pokemon. I'm not sure when it was that I considered what I was watching to be anime though.

It would probably have to be the original Naruto. I knew about Dragon Ball/Dragon Ball Z and such since I was always deeply engrossed in the Budokai series, but I never had the resources to watch it. Plus, I didn't even know what anime was when I was playing those games.

Spirited Away!
Watched it back in 2009 and it absolutely amazed me. Tried Bleach and Death Note next, and now here I am finishing about 1 anime a month!

I listed the build up to it in the other thread, and though I saw something when I was 5 I didn't yet know it was "anime."

What got me "started" was Sailor Moon, Tenchi Muyo and Gundam Wing on Toonami. Tenchi/Sailor Moon can be seen in plenty of shows I like - I actually dislike mecha as an adult though.

In the 70's it was Star Blazers, the American version of Space Battleship Yamato, closely followed by Battle of the Planets, the American version of Kagaku Ninja-Tai Gatchaman.
