Not another one. Seriously, what were you people expecting from a series who title translates to "My Little Sister Can't Possibly be This Cute." I repeat "My Little Sister Can't Possibly be This Cute." Why are people shocked by how this series ended? How can you read that title and not think the series was going to be an incest story?

Because when I read that title I didn't read "cute" as in the "Wow, I'm kind of attracted to them" cute, I read it as in the "D'aww that's so adorable!" type of cute.

Incest doesn't bother me... I don't like the series because Kirino was the worst tsundere ever; she wasn't even slightly likeable.

If they did the show backwards, she would still be irritating, but she would end up at least ignorable by the end.

I liked her tho. She was a realistically portrayed haughty, icy teenage girl with anger, emotional damage, and resentment. The only character I disliked was Minami, because she was the one who warped the siblings and wouldn't own up to her own moral impropriety.

I hated Kirino, probably because of the way the rest of the cast treated her. Kirino wasn't willing to compromise on anything, she put herself before everything. The rest of the cast responded by actually putting her before everything as well. The whole world revolved around Kirino essentially, it seemed like she had more actual power than Haruhi, and she was supposed to technically be the center of the universe in her stories. That's also why I liked Manami, she was the ONLY person who said "Kirino, the world doesn't revolve around you.", and unfortunately, she was wrong.

I dunno.....Kirino gets blamed a lot for being selfish, but she's the one who gets used the most in the series. Ayase is only willing to be her pal as long as Kirino remains the ideal image / idol she wants her to be; Glasses Girl uses her as a surrogate for the circle of pals she once had; her father is strict with her and is willing to let her (like Ayase) only be the ideal image of who he wants her to be, and her mother was willing to physically remove Kirino from her brother because she didn't want them to have their way with each other; Manami used Kirino as a way to get closer to the MC; Kuroneko manipulated Kirino to get her "happy ending."

Kirino herself has so much self-loathing that the only reason it's not a melodrama is because she's tsundere.

The show even admitted that Kirinos' pervy otaku habits were indeed harmful, the MC admitted that his father was right to worry about his daughter for playing eroge as a young teen. It showed the isolation that could come about from fully delving into otaku culture.

It seems everyone who just gets offended by others having problems with incest always use the "but it was in the title all aloooooooong!" defense, but either they were watching an entirely different show, or didn't choose to pick up on the actual story as it was being portrayed because they were so invested in seeing Kirino get boned by her brother.

So yeah, people are naturally going to be miffed when the story then turns around and gives them the middle finger.

Or, put in another way:

To show did to viewers what Kuroneko did to the MC.

I could easily turn around and say that people were so invested in seeing their favorite girl win that they choose to ignore the rather obvious signs of attraction between the two. You even said that you noticed the incest hints but choose to see them only as gags that didn't mean anything. You interpreted those "gags" wrong because you choose to look at them at face value and not at their deeper meaning.

But after episode 1, it's painfully obvious that Kirino is in no way the latter. If you thought Kirino was adorable after episode 1, then we have very different meanings of the word 'adorable.'

After episode one it is clear she isn't adorable, but she slowly becomes nicer as the first season goes on. As already said the first season was all about their sibling bond becoming stronger again. It certainly wasn't them wanting to bone each other. Hell it isn't like that for the majority of the entire series.

We're really starting to deviate here.

Putting aside all my strong feelings of hate/love (like we should be doing here), now that you mention it and explain it clearly, it does seem like OreImo would have also made a good story if played backward. It would be interesting, and I'd like to see it develop, but I don't think that would necessarily make the anime better. Two of the main reasons of hate toward OreImo are that Kyousuke chose his own sister over all the other girls, and Kirino's personality didn't match our expectations. Sure, playing the story in reverse might eliminate one, or even both of those points, but most likely it will create more, different problems for viewers to pick at. In other words, the people who hate it now might end up liking that version, but the people who like it now (or were just content with it) might end up hating it.

For those who complain about Kyousuke's choice- just go buy the PSP games, or find a doujin that matches your tastes. Don't let your opinion of an anime be biased or destroyed just because things didn't turn out the way you wanted them to.

My problem with the ending isn't so much who he picked, it is how those last 3 episodes more or less ruined almost every character in the show. Nearly all of them started acting completely differently to how they were even just the episode before. There's nothing that can fix that.....

Okay, just letting you know- those last three episodes were the true ending of OreImo. As in: the LN ended that way, and so did the OVA end. Because the anime ended completely different, the other girls weren't portrayed in a way that would lead up to the OVAs, like the LN.

I guess if you put yourself in their shoes, it's kind of reasonable? But then again, that situation doesn't really happen to anyone, so it is hard to empathize. But that's why the anime ended the way it did- to prevent your thoughts from attacking the actual anime, and not the "OVAs to the anime", which is not as bad. I think.

The problem is, season 2's mere existence showed that the OVAs, despite being OVAs, are part of the whole and need to be counted when forming your opinion of the show. What I mean by that is, the second season follows the events of the first season's OVAs, meaning the non-OVA ending to season 1 essentially didn't happen. All of the important events that set up the second season happened in the OVAs.

Thus, the same thing applies here. The non-OVA ending isn't actually the ending. Meaning the OVAs, and the massive amount of character assassination has to be counted. So thus, the series was still ruined.

Girls Girls Girls...calm down, you are all beautiful.

Honestly how did this show really mind F people? I think I got over the end about 1 hours after I saw it, only thing that peeved me was the pussying out of the incest end, if you are going to pick a route, stick with it, dnt be a bitch half way through then wa-la it was all pretend, lets forget everything. Although Kirino is not my girl but still, a final end is a win no matter who gets it, but meh they went with a middle finger to every fan, thank god I my fan-ness? to it was as minimal as it gets.

Side note: did he ever boink his sister though? any one that played the game/ read the novel, feel free to reply ;D

Isn't Japan like most countries that have no problem with incest?
