Would really like for Gosick to licensed since Baindai went under. I remember Sentai made an announcement that they were interested in licensing Gosick, Heroman, and a few others.

Some other anime have also taken a few years to be licensed like Koe de Oshigoto from Media Blasters and even School Days that's getting a release from Discotek this June.

Some other titles I would like to see licensed:
Yosuga no Sora (Someone? Please?)
Black★Rock Shooter (I thought Funimation would get this since they also streamed it that winter)
Hyouka (Sort of surprised this wasn't picked up by anyone. I think Bandai would have if they hadn't went under)
Hourou Musuko (Similar to Gosick and Heroman, CR has it but I would like to see a physical release)
GJ-bu (Same thing, would like to see a physical release by someone)

I honestly couldn't recall Funimation streaming it, although I was able to confirm they did, albeit apparently for a rather short period of time (http://www.fandompost.com/oldforums/printthread.php?t=1128&pp=10&page=26).

Even their partner at the time, NicoNico.com, was late in getting started with it, beginning around the time the series ended (http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-734875/winter-2012-anime?fpid=39467832). Only the Japanese site, NicoNico.jp, did a true simulcast, which was available to several countries.

Assuming Funimation started soon after (the linked message confirms Funimation hadn't started when NicoNico.com did), they had it for less than 2 months. In contrast, the other two new Funico simulcasts from that season, Symphogear and Milky Holmes 2 are still available at Funimation's site.

Black Rock Shooter is the big one for me, but I'd also throw Yozakura Quartet: Hana no Uta in there two (also a bit strange, considering Sentai has the 2008 series).

About Symohogear and Funimation not doing anything with it like giving it a physical release, you said it may have been due to the Funico deal at the time. Would you happen to have a guess as to why there hasn't been a physical release for The Tatami Galaxy?

Oh, and then there are some weird one's like House of Five Leaves that's licensed by Funimation, available for streaming here on CR, and was given a physical release by Nis America. I'm not quite sure how that happened.

Oh, and then there are some weird one's like House of Five Leaves that's licensed by Funimation, available for streaming here on CR, and was given a physical release by Nis America. I'm not quite sure how that happened.

From what I understand, in both cases the streaming performance for both wasn't sufficient for Funimation to feel that either title would sell well enough to cover the costs of a dubbed release, which is the only type they were doing at the time. (Regarding that, has anyone seen any announcement of a sub-only release from them after OniAi? Some people have pointed to The Tatami Galaxy as a good candidate for that program.)

As for House of Five Leaves, not only did NIS America apparently see more potential in the title than Funimation, they also do sub-only releases (and until recently, only did sub-only releases). With Funimation not having the home video license, there was no obstacle there. Even if Funimation's streaming contract including first refusal rights for the home video rights, they clearly chose not to exercise those rights.

That leaves the only mystery as how NIS America obtained streaming rights for the series to re-license to CR. The simple answer is that as of the time NISA obtained those rights, Funimation didn't have exclusive rights. The real question is if they ever did, or if they did but the exclusive simply expired, or there was a clause in their contract that stated if another company licensed it for home video that said company could also license those rights.

Speaking of contracts, as I've mentioned before their streaming contract for both Symphogear and Milky Holmes 2 is atypical. Neither series is available except via their website (i.e., not available via their Roku or mobile apps), and at least in the case of Symphogear (I haven't checked Milky Holmes 2), includes commercials, even if one is an Elite subscriber.

There are some other series that have shared those features. For example, at one time, One Piece did. I'm curious if part of the reason CR was finally able to get it is because Funimation had to renegotiate their contract to move beyond those restrictions.

Rose of Versailles was one of my favorite unlicensed series but it looks like it's being brought over, finally. I'm very happy crunchyroll is hosting it because it's a wonderful series and really deserves a bigger audience.
Bokurano is another great one that hasn't been licensed here. I know the manga's been released in NA but I haven't heard anything of the anime being brought over.

About Haruhi and Lucky Star? Sure Bandai released both at one time, and you can still see both here on CR (minus dub and Haruhi movie sadly), but what kind of nrgotiations would have to be done to acquire the dubs here? Since Bandai's anime distibution shut down.

From what I understand, the English dub of an anime becomes the property of the Japanese license holder when the rights revert back to them. So, any company that acquires the rights to stream and/or distribute the series in the future would be able to get permission from the Japanese license holder to use the English dub if the materials still exist. My guess is it would have cost CR more to get the dubbed version of these series and they decided it was not worth it; especially since FUNi or Sentai will likely pick them up later and put out home video releases competing with their streams.

As far as anime I'd like to see licensed for home video, preferably Blu-ray, in North America:

GOSICK - I think one of the anime companies will get this one eventually.
Chihayafuru - I'm not as hopeful here given the poor track record of sports anime sales in NA, but it'd be a shame if it's not.
Yuu-Shibu - Sentai or FUNi will likely get this one at some point.
Dennou Coil - I heard negotiations for this are really tricky, so that's why it's taking forever to get picked up.
Nichijou - like Haruhi and Lucky Star, I expect this will get picked up again, maybe in a package deal, eventually.
White Album - Maybe Discotek might get this one, at least I hope.

Yeah that's what seems to be the case for The Tatami Galaxy. I wonder what other series Funimation has under their license and haven't given a physical release due to the same reason. I have also thought it would be a good candidate for Funimation's new sub-only releases. I haven't seen another announcement of a sub-only release since OniAi, but I have a strong feeling that Senran Kagura will be the next one.

As for House of Five Leaves, it was just sort of odd to see another company release something that Funimation licensed. I don't know if there were any precedents for that (maybe their live action titles have) but it was the first time I saw it happen. I guess it comes down to whether they have the exclusive rights or not.

Yeah unfortunately. I'm hoping for NIS America to grab this one. I must have GJ-bu!... and I don't think the Japanese volumes have English subs.

Oh I just remembered another title that needs to be licensed. Nijuu Mensou no Musume (The Daughter of Twenty Faces)

Really interesting articles that for some uncanny reason, mentioned unrescued Bandai titles like Haruhi and Lucky Star.

Gintama both the anime and the manga

well, i guess i can understand it. Although it does very well in Japan, the show doesn't really appeal nor translate to the majority of regular anime watchers. Japanese pop culture and history is a constant theme and reference, so it makes it hard for non-Japanese watchers to understand some of the jokes.

although there was that one episode where someone (Gin or Shinpachi I think) noted that even the Japanese fans don't get all the jokes
