So around 20 female BL authors in mainland China (Not including Hong Kong/Macau) have been arrested for the content they have written.

It's a horrifyingly discriminatory world.

This is news? China has always been strict against this kind of stuff. The law is shit there but it's still the law, and if you break it, you can be expected to be prosecuted.

It's the first time they ever made a example out of BL/Yuri authors. And specifically Sherlock Holmes ones. The anime/comic ones ignored.

Since there is apparently a shortage of women in China, if they end up arresting hundreds or thousands of women for being Fujoshi, the bachelors will, in sexual frustration, rage in the streets over this )& get shot for it).

If it wasn't for the fact that you have to travel through North Korea to reach South Korea by moving van, I'd have said moving to SK would have been a good bet for them.

"The police officers in the report expressed disgust at the activity of writing fanfiction; one stated that he believed writing and reading slash "promotes homosexuality," a comment that angered Chinese netizens."

wouldn't this be a good thing, though? Aren't Chinese trying to control their population growth?

China is so backward it isn't even funny.

I wouldn't be bothered to go even if someone paid me to.

I like how they've renamed Sherlock and Watson as Curly Fu and Peanut.

that's too bad, you'll be missing out on some very nice people, great food, historical wonders, and cheap markets

Oh, trust me, I've met enough mainland people to form a generalization. The ones I can tolerate have mostly been raised in the US. I was raised in Taiwan and the difference between the countries is pretty huge. There are enough restaurants here in the US that allow me to enjoy the food without risking health for the street food there. Maybe cheap markets would be nice, but I wouldn't know. I don't buy much stuff to begin with.

Chinese American food is not the same as actual Chinese food. And I have no idea where the "street food" is coming from. Sure, they have street vendors, but so does the US. You can chose to buy from them or go to a restaurant. Just don't drink the water lol

ummm and I'm glad you can "tolerate" Chinese people. i am sure they overjoyed that they are tolerated.

either way, your loss. I loved visiting China and 10/10 would go again.

There are restaurants in the U.S. that serve authentic Chinese food, particularly in major cities. I've been to a few - personally I found the food disgusting, but to each their own. Give me Italian or Mexican any day.

While I can't say I'm fond of the Chinese government either, I will admit I am slightly jealous you've gotten to visit. I'm a bit of a history buff and there are so many cool things to see there.

Seeing as it's been months since the arrests were made, I'm curious if anyone has seen/heard an update on the matter.
