In CR's PS3 app, when videos are being scrolled through the app suddenly crashes (this happens every time,) which makes later episodes in a series inaccessible simply because you can't scroll to them. Also, sometimes episodes randomly stop at certain points and you are taken back to your queue. These issues become extremely annoying, and I'm wondering if these issues have ever been reported before or if there is any work being done to fix them.

If you read just about any other thread under this part of the help forum, you will find that these issues have been reported over and over and over again. (Though I don't recall anyone saying that an episode stopping suddenly brought them back to their queue. Usually crashes bring you back to the PS3 menu or completely freeze your PS3 such that a hard reset is required. Can you tell if it happens in the same spot on particular episodes every time you try to watch?) It has been a LONG time since the last update to the app, but crunchyroll staff continues to assure us they are working on it.

There is a memory leak that causes most of the issues, so the longer you have the app going, the more likely you will run into problems. What I do to avoid the main issues of crashing and lagging is to have the show I want to watch be first in my queue, then close out the app and reopen it after each episode watched. It takes an extra minute or so, but I haven't had problems this way. My queue always remembers the last episode I was on, though I have seen others who report that it does not for them. I have also purposely avoided seriously long shows based on the experience others have reported trying to do so using the PS3 app so can't tell you my experience with that.

If you are in the middle of a series from watching somewhere else and your queue is not up to date, try loading up the last episode you watched on the crunchyroll website and just scroll through most of the episode and let it play out the last minute or so. This should update your queue to the proper spot in the series so you don't have to scroll within the app. The aim of the game is to press the least amount of buttons possible while the app is running! Good luck!

Thanks for the info. The mid-episode crashes that lead back to my queue don't happen at any particular spot in a video, they just seem to occur randomly. When I restart the episode it usually doesn't happen again (it doesn't happen consistently, but it can be a minor inconvenience having to find your place in an episode again)

Something to add to this is that I've been experimenting with the app, and I have only been experiencing crash and lag issues with the anime section. The drama section runs smooth and easy, with the menus scrolling properly, episodes playing on demand, and no crashes to desktop ever taking place.

Why that should be the case I'm not entirely certain.

Workarounds are fine and all, but it's annoying to boast about new platforms (PS4, Vita) and not fix the existing apps. I know Sony charges a lot of money for patches, but what about using some of that venture capital and actually work on fixing the PS3 version?

I've been having the same issues as OP, and I can't see how it's a memory leak from prolonged use when I don't even have the app running on my PS3 for two minutes before it happens and crashes my entire system. I run Netlfix, I play games, I do all sorts of other things with my PS3 and it's fine. I only have an issue with the Crunchyroll app.

If there isn't an update soon I'll be cancelling my subscription before its next renewal until the app is fixed. I just don't have the time or money to be wasting on a service I literally can't use. It's just that simple.

The funny thing about this app is that some people seem to have lots of crashes, and others, like me, a tolerable amount. Aren't all consoles supposed to act the same? :-P

It seems the more I scroll around my queue the more likely the PS3 will hang/crash when I start the next show--but rarely, maybe even never, has it crashed in the middle of a show.

Also, there are times when the playback becomes "choppy" and/or out of sync with the audio, but unlike this being a buffering problem, the audio is playing along normally, and sometimes way ahead of the video. A restart usually fixes this. Some shows seem to exhibit this more than others.

My symptoms do very much feel like a memory leak in progress....

I wonder if we have a case of some people leaving their consoles running 24/7 while others shut them down while not using them.

The crashes happening while scrolling through videos is usually a glitch triggered by multiple seasons of a show being listed under one title, or at least this was the case when I used the PS3 app fairly regularly. Scrolling back and forth through the queue, and the out of sync video are what typically seem to cause the memory leak issues.

The main issue is that it hasn't been fixed. No matter what ways you try and solve it a playback issue causing someone to do a hard reset or reset the program so frequently should be fixed.
