I just got through watching Hunter X Hunter (2011) Episode 126. Netero vs. The King.

In my opinion, it is the single greatest singular episode of anime ever created. A masterpiece on every level, from animation, to drama and suspense, to execution. Everything.

This is just another in what is becoming a long line of unbelievable quality moments from this series. With this episode being its crowing achievement thus far.

This begs the question: Does Hunter X Hunter deserve to be in the debate for the Greatest Anime of All Time?

My opinion should be obvious: "Yes." (In fact, it was already my favorite of all time BEFORE this episode.)

But, what do you guys think?

Nope. I don't care about what people deem as the "greatest", especially seeing what those anime are.

I will say it's one of the greatest experiences in anime watching i've ever had, and the fact that i was seriously afraid for all the other anime i've seen and thought were extremely good is insane.

It's in my top 5 for sure...by the way, Naruto, Bleach, and One Piece are not in my top 50.

Gintama beats out all three of those for me.

Maybe if it's a conversation purely about Shonen.

Of course. Though if you ask me, the greatest anime ever made is Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. But Hunter x Hunter 2011 is pretty close. (Shounen remakes ftw!)

Depends what anime is included in that debate, because some of the anime that is recognized as the greatest by the community, isn't even on my top 50 list.

But yeah, it's no doubt one of the greatest in my opinion, and ive had it as my second favorite anime since the 2011 version started (went straight for the manga after that).

Personally, I feel that no long running anime can really fit that.

Yes. It does.

You'd have to be blind not to see the sheer mastery of craft (in the writing, creation and production of this show), and the length of time Hunter x Hunter has been this good is mind-boggling.

I don't think it should get a free pass straight to the title of "Best of All-Time," but with each passing episode it more and more deserves a place at the table, along with PMMM, NGE, Cowboy Bebop and the few other shows that are generally considered to be among the best the medium has ever produced.

The conversation for best shounen of all time and best long-runner of all time is over. Done. Closed out. Hunter x Hunter has already won those battles. It's time for new company for this show.

Yep, In my opinion Hunter x Hunter is one of the best shonen anime that's currently airing, it just ticks all boxes for me, from the pace of the show to the animation.

That is clearly all subjective and is nothing more than an opinion. Let's not be a fanboy now.

One Piece was once in my top 5 not that long ago, but it's really fading FAST. The Fishman arc was weak and now they seem to be transitioning into this Big Mam storyline which seems even weaker. I've already fallen like 6 months behind the current story and find it difficult to continue.

If I had to call a top 5 right now it would be:

Hunter X Hunter
Kyosougiga
Gintama
Black Lagoon
Puella Magi Madoka Magica.
