Its funny to hear people say "I buy pc games from gamestop because the disk downloads faster." its really not after you waste your time and gas money going to and from there

I don't care about Gamestop closing stores (I don't like that company), but I do feel bad for the people losing their jobs. Gamestop rips people off all the time, which is why I now buy most of my games and trade in games through Amazon.

I'm hoping, and assuming, my store isn't one of the ones closing. I conveniently live within walking distance of mine. In my mind, it allows me to offset a few of those many hours of gaming by forcing myself walk to GameStop to get it. As far as the mobile thing goes, I fail to see where they make money, let alone it being a good idea. I mean, most iphones are sold through carriers, so not much money to be had their, and they have no way of making money of mobile games themselves. Maybe id they had their own app store like Amazon, then maybe it would work, maybe.

I imagine that a significant portion of the measly 120 cut is them closing stores that they're getting little business from, and/or ridding themselves of excess ones. As another poster brought up, Gamestop occasionally has many stores close by to each other. The numbers may have worked when Gamestop was popular in those areas, but a drop in demand results in there being too many. I don't see any company in their right mind shutting down where there's a good/high profit. Also, I consider it too early to compare Gamestop to Blockbuster, not with a drop of only 120. Should this become a trend, then it's worth worrying about (to some extent).

Well, I haven't really been buying anything from Gamestop lately since I haven't had the time to play video games like I used to. And I usually order them online, anyway.

I only use GameStop when I'm too impatient to wait a couple days for Amazon to ship it or when I am at the mall. xD

Otherwise I just use Amazon.

The future is turning digital yay about time, but it is sad so many people are losing their jobs there is only one gamestop near me and I only use it for consoles and controllers. Don't want to wait even a day for those to be delivered.

This probably has something to do with what I read last year, talking about how mobile platforms are the next big thing in the gaming industry.

Still, not like we didn't have enough places to buy that shit before.

If Steam has something to do with it, it would probably be the sales. Gamestop carries trade-ins, but other than that, only new titles. There are many games I've bought on Steam that not only were no longer carried by Gamestop, but far cheaper even if they were.

I'm not worried yet, though. Not until consoles become totally digital with no hard copies.

I had two shops closed down a few years ago. I felt bad about their employes that weren't transferred to other stores. I bought just about all my games from these two stores. Around the same time I did a store locator check, and there were 25 stores in30 mins of me. That is quite a lot.

On another note. I went into best buy and hhgreg (sp?), tonight. Incredible. The digital age is catching up with retail, these stores were close to 50% less items of multimedia. More vacuum cleaners and razors, etc...

I know I try to buy all my media digitally, but that is cause I want less clutter.
