Wow I didn't even know it premiered yet lol, just saw it.

Basically, Anime of the Millenium, Tuxedo Mask/10, flawless.

But really, Usagi would probably do better with a different VA, and I personally didn't like the subs all that much. And that's one of the only times I've had a problem with official subs. Perhaps my Japanese is getting too amazing. But I was okay with the CG transformation.

On the upside, everything else was awesome, and there was Tuxedo Mask. What more could I ask for lol

Episode 1

Usagi becomes Sailor Moon after that black cat came searching for her. The first monster she defeats is Naru's mother. Or more specifially, a ghoul disguised as Naru's mother at the jewelry store. Well, I didn't watch much Sailor Moon, but what I do remember from it, this show definitely feels like what I remember. Anyway, the animation is nice and modernized, but still remaining that nostalgia feel. And then there's that CG transformation sequence that's just, ugh, an eye sore to put it.

Never saw the original, so I wasn't that hyped, but I liked the first episode well enough.

As far as the CV for Usagi goes...I think its some sort of unwritten rule that, if the original voice actor for a role is still alive, they always gets dibs on the role in the remake. It didn't bother me; she does sound a bit old for the role, but the acting itself was solid. Its just that this series is based a bit more faithfully on the manga, and Usagi was kind of a crybaby for a while there. The CG transformation wasn't bad, it just suffered from being obviously CG, so it did hurt the illusion a fair bit.

But yeah, I liked it a quite a bit. Granted, they would have had to royally screw it up for me not to like it, but it was still better than I expected. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the cast come into the show.

And I am curious as to how they're going to handle the final bit of the arc, are we going to get the mass slaughter or will they wimp out on us?

Takeuchi wants this series to be as direct of an adaptation as possible, and Toei can't do anything now without her approval. She literally owns the rights to every aspect of the series except distribution.

Usagi is one of those protagonist that some would argue is lovably flawed.

On the other hand, there are also some moments when I wanna grab her and strangle the shit out of her for being so irritating.

She nearly beats her first enemy by crying people!

I knew the CG transformation would become a love / hate thing.

Personally I thought it worked quite well. A magical transformation is meant to be eye-catchingly different from the rest of the show. The CG felt solid and unlike in other series wasn't jarringly different in style from the traditional animated sections. If anything it shows improvement on the all CG animation from Arpeggio or RWBY and indicates the industry is getting ever closer to bridging the gap between CG and traditional character animation.

Of course, that's just my opinion. Different strokes.

And it wasn't just that it was off putting CGI used in the transformation scene. The poses were shitty and not at all delicate and cohesive. It was like watching a rubber doll jerk around in a glitter storm. Ugh.

That major bit of annoyance aside, it seems promising and I'd like to see where it goes. The O.G. V.A. was a nice touch. She's still got it! Umino's look barely got an upgrade but I thought that was funny. It was interesting how they decided not to even pretend to make tuxedo mask's identity a "secret" this time like the original.

That's a concept I don't think people aren't grasping yet. By the third episode people should realize this show is it's own thing.

Lol wow that VA....she was the original VA I assume, I can even hear the old age in her, that will take some time to et use to along with the CGI, overall I will continue to watch, good thing this isn't so much a childhood thing as I want to be detached enough to enjoy any new thing that comes up/

I just watched the first episode.

As a long time lover the the classic original anime, and especially the manga - I was very pleased. I thought they did a great job, and I enjoyed (almost) every single thing. Actually cried at the sheer nostalgia and my love of this series. I f*cking LOVE Usagi - trust me you guys, she undergoes some of the BEST character development and is seriously a wonderful, wonderful character.

I might even like Mamoru for the first time (he's just...."there" for me), and his updated character design (while staying true to the manga) was good too. Voice was good as well. Luna was utterly adorable, and Usagi was pretty, precious and as cute as can be. Nice to see Jadeite - oh, you bad boy you ;D

Only thing I hated was of course the CGI henshin. Just...Ugh. SO HORRIBLE especially for SUCH A CLASSIC MAGICAL GIRL SHOW. WHAT THE F*CK???????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Opening was catchy and fun, but will never be like Moonlight Dentetsu or (my personal favorite) the Sailor Star Song used in season 5. Ending was sweet and beautifully animated, but I prefer Heart Moving from the original anime.

I'll probably re-watch this episode a few million times more, and I CANNOT WAIT until the next episode!

SO HAPPY it is sticking to the manga this time 'round!

I wonder, if that's the case, why the other 4 inner senshi didn't reprise their roles. I doubt they'd turn it down. At least I think that neway. As far as the henshin, I don't mind it as they said in that last magazine interview that the reason it is what it is is because they intend to shoot the henshins from multiple angles later on.

Well, Tomizawa is mostly retired (granted, she's retired like 5 times already), Fukami hasn't done much of anything anime-wise in recent years, and Shinohara doesn't really do a lot of major roles anymore. I'm really surprised Aya Hisakawa isn't back though; she still does pretty regular work, and her voice isn't very different from back then. Could be contract issues, could be the whim of Takeuchi...could be a lot of things really. I assume most of them had the role offered to them (it would be weird if they didn't, really).
