Saddest/most depressing anime you ever watched, why and how did you react?
Posted 4/27/14
This topic is not supposed to portray a negative reputation towards an anime, nor do I like being sad or depressed. The reason I created this thread was to get some insight on some anime of which people thought were heart-wrenching. An anime with psychological and emotional themes to it, always has an excellent story to it, as I've found.

Clannad. When I think about it, I have watched things that have been way more depressing, but for some reason I think I cried for like half the episodes.

Angel Beats!
This anime has a lot of comedy elements however during the sad and dramatic scenes, it's really painful to acknowledge. The ending is especially sad. It left a hole in my heart.

The Pilot's Love Song
This anime had a lot of potential and the ending felt a lot rushed, however the sad realities of death and tragedy really takes your emotions to the next level. The ending is also a huge cliffhanger.

Anohana
A classic favourite and an anime filled with feels. The events leading up to the ending felt like it was the right way to end the story, however you feel sad because something special was taken from our protagonists.

Paranoia Agent - I remember finding its psychological horror quite uncomfortable to watch in places, and that's even before the truly surreal nature of what was going on became apparent. The use of different characters and situations to get across the reality - if you could call it that - of Lil' Slugger definitely struck a cord with me at the time. Depressing, cynical, thought-provoking and...totally worth a look if you like this kind of drama/horror or have seen anything else by the late Satoshi Kon.

Plus, you know...the military sent 200 students to their deaths.
