Both seasons are on Netflix, if that helps.

I'm actually thinking of getting the bluray. I recently realized the reason they are so expensive and that they are actually worth that much (meaning that price is actually reasonable)

Just wait for Christmas sales on Rightstuf.

I was going to get them for $60 instead of their original $120 because of the sale, but decided against it in the end as, well, I didn't care enough to waste money on something I was never going to watch again. That was a year or two ago, though.

It's all about smart shopping. Like, for example, how I got the entirety of GitS excluding Arise for $50.

I haven't watched many anime which involved "tragedies" but many that were very touching.
Clannad and Clannad: After Story definitely take it to be the most depressing anime on my list.
Also Angel Beats! Nearing the end of the series.

Angel beats is definitely the most depressing anime I've seen (haven't seen Clannad yet so you don't judge me :c).

Seriously, is using the Search Forum bar so hard? I use it whenever I think of making a thread because 10+ people have already made the exact same one, and chances are, they're usually STILL active!

And before anyone responds with "People have a right to voice their opinion and ask questions; if you don't like it, just ignore the thread and don't post."

It's a problem when people ask the SAME (or similar) questions week after week (if not day after day). I'm not against asking questions, but when the questions are so broad (What's your favorite anime?) you HAVE to take a step back and think "Hasn't this question been asked before?"

"Recently?"

For the (inevitable) counter-arguments: Are you really going to defend laziness (excuse: I don't want to use the search forum bar!) and ignorance (excuse: I didn't know!)?

My point is made...

Air. Especially if you take the creator's view on the two children at the end of the series as cannon.

Clannad-After Story was definitely the most tragic and depressing, but that's what made it my favorite anime.

I also see that a lot of people are choosing animes by KEY, like Angel Beats!, Air, Kanon, Clannad, etc. I agree with you all

Oh yes, 5 centimeters per second is a sad one. Even if you aren't into watching sad anime the art is fantastic.

Basilisk is another very tragic story of love and loss, similar to Romeo and Juliet. It is very dark as well.

No. 6, Clannad, Elfen Lied

I don't like serious/sad anime that much so I tend to avoid them.

I would say Mirai Nikki if it wasn't for that regrettable Redial. Otherwise, K-On! because I got sad that I finished watching all the episodes and movie so quickly.

I'm sort of fond of Basilisk. Maybe White Album 2 too, but that one made me feel frustrated at the characters as well.

Personally, I would say that the Place Promised in Our Early Days is borderline tragic, mainly because of what happens at the very end. (No Spoilers) I completely agree with everything else though.
