Kind of a cop-out...but I can't say I have a specific ''favorite genre''...my favorite anime of all time is Baccano! and one of its distinctive feature is that it doesn't have a set genre.

I like shows based on how good the characterization and story is, not for how it's categorized.

Mecha shows. I don't find mecha action to be amazing, I've just had very good luck with the quality of this genre. Like Code Geass, Gundam 00, Eureka Seven.

Psychological Thriller Shows. Shows that really get into your mind and absolutely destroy you with unexpected twists. Like Mirai Nikki, Rainbow, Aoi Bungaku, and Higurashi.

I suppose those are my "unique" ones.

I like a variety of genre, but quality action anime is something I can't resist.

Mecha

Because ever since I was a kid, I've always had a really big interest in robots.

I really like just about every genre of anime, but some of the traits that I really like are:

Supernatural- I've always loved vampires and demons and the like, very interesting to me.
Tragedy- I can't exactly explain why I love it, but it does a really good job of evoking emotion, so that makes it fun.
Cerebral- For lack of a better word. Something with lots of strategy and mind games. Prevalent idealism is also a plus.

This is a constant battle for me between Magical Girl and Yuri Series (so the perfect show for me would definitely be one that joins the themes together like say Nanoha or Madoka

Comedy/Action/Adventure.

I like to laugh and smile and I've always had a dream to go on a big adventure. There'll be serious moments that are heart wrenching and tear jerking, but there will also be light moments where you'll laugh your heart out.

My favorite genre will forever be a combination of slice of life and shojo romantic dramedy.

I honestly don't know why I like this particular hybrid genre. I just know that the type of anime that have stuck with me fall into this category. I also grew up watching these types of anime: Kare Kano, Marmalade Boy, Super GALS!, Peach Girl, etc.

I think it's also because I tend to like things grounded in realness and reality more. I also love lots of drama! But don't get me wrong. I love me some magical girls and blood and guts supernatural big explosion anime too. It's just that slice of life and shojo romantic dramedies have a soft spot in my heart.

Anime like Marmalade Boy and Kare Kano were my childhood and definitely sucked me into this genre which is why NANA was so fun exciting for me. It was like an adult version of the type of anime I've always loved. So screw everybody who hates on this genre!

Action, adventure, drama, and supernatural. Naruto got me into it.
