The local radios over here are completely garbage. Upgrade to Satellite radio or start finding music online. Youtube is a nice start, once you find an artist that interests you, buy their records.

Lemme clear this up, im not saying that quality entertainment is dead. I agree that you really have to search for it, its the way i found music artists like SBTRKT, Rustie, The XX, Voltaire Twins, Vanbot, etc. Same with video games, someone mentioned Journey which was an amazing game. Its just that it seems that SOME of these producers/directors/companies/artists are just putting out anything to get by.....Aw hell, i don't even care anymore.

Basically the entertainment industry is homogenized.

Movies and games are much more expensive to produce, and production companies want "guaranteed returns" in financially unsettling times, so generally they produce what sold before. Remakes and turning animes into films should come as no surprise.

Games especially have the primary tech barrier that started last gen. It's now too expensive for most smaller studios to produce indie games (hence the explosion on clients like steam).

I've heard the comic book industry has fallen on hard times. Manga is booming, but is also a curiosity in that it is still almost 100% imported for various reasons (I did a research project on this), including but not limited to the fact that we can't seem to draw it worth a shit (educational factors mostly).

Music suffers the same fate as movies, with the addition of massive piracy. You know that thing where there are only a couple of good tracks per cd? They actually do that on purpose so they can release more cd's. Fact as old as time. So, I'm not sorry to see the old business model die here.

Publishing has the same problem as movies, but because of the creation of e-reader tech. E-books have created a Youtube phenomenon: a massive upsurge in complete garbage, but also gems that never would have seen the light of day otherwise. Mostly though, it's the payment difference. You can earn over 70% of the price per e-book, depending on the contract. An actual published book earns you less than 10% for sure, possibly less than 5% (been awhile since I looked at it), so now even major authors are considering e-books.

So in general, what you're witnessing is the gap between old business models that deserved to fail, but the technology in many fields is not quite cheap enough yet for most people to produce content.

No, I don't think so. Entertainment is forever mutating. If anything, I'd say that it's just more more easy for people to grab attention and jump into the business (or try to), so we have a larger influx of entertainment "new blood" finding their wings and being sorted out by "natural selection."

This is a rather complicated subject, so I'll leave it at that.

You can't judge the quality of music based on the radio because a large proportion of the good stuff doesn't get played on there and you have to search for it on the internet

Music - Oh god, the music they play in the radio is terrible. I don't know how people can listen to that crap.

Movies - Movies are boring now.

TV Shows - I don't watch TV Shows.

Video Games - They will always be good. Besides, COD.

Yes... Except for anime. I have noticed it's getting freaking better by the day. For example hunter x hunter episode 126 and though some people don't like the story line of attack on titan that much the uniqueness of how they fight and animation is freaking awesome but yes music is freaking shit I don't even touch the radio anymore.

i dont know whats today's music is,there is no genre definition,i call it 'rojak' [its a kind mix fruit],ive choose to live in the 80s and 90s music, all the genre been push to the limit at those time, after that, now, most of it is just a recap,or recycled with slight modification.
for movie's,i can still cope with those new movie, but it think the lack the bold introduce new element[no i m not talking about better cg],the way that more old movies made the viewers think, thats what i like the most.
for tv show....i cant comment on it,coz i hardly watch any beside top gear uk.
for games, there is good and bad - i grow up with famicom & those old computer[mostly MSX] at those times, games uses more player imagination than the game graphic itself, but lack the 'action' than most of the newer games now and lack of mass interaction with other player[at those time, internet connectivity is scarce]

......when i wrote this,i just really really miss my old 'hand me down' yamaha DX7 suddenly ....i wanted to synth it out loud with my old mate's again....T_T

Music: Well, I tend to listen to like 80s-90s metal bands...so of course I feel like every pop singer sounds the same nowadays. I probably can only tolerate Lady Gaga and that is all. Hardly any good indie/folk singers nowadays as well.

I don't play video games that often besides Pokemon and Minecraft lol.

I do feel movies and TV shows are all aiming for the teenage fan girls...all looking for the next Twilight. The only grounds breaking movie I saw recently was Gravity, one of the few movies nowadays that aren't based on a book.
I think shows like Sherlock and Doctor Who are amazing, however. I don't watch any other shows...

It's all about the fans ...
