No it's not dying. There's always been quality entertainment and crap, mostly crap. It pays to be picky. It might be harder to find TV/movie quality now though, there are so many choices spread out across a hundred million TV channels and online options. Music is pretty easy to sample though. Find something you like and listen to related artists. It's probably easier now than ever because we don't have to rely on whatever gets on the radio through payola.

I only agree with you on the music part. I can't stand nowadays music. Beyonce, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj... Ewww. Thanks, but I'll stick to the 80es and anime songs. ^^ Not saying everything related to music nowadays is crap and I know that different people have different tastes, so please don't take this as an offense.

Well I agree some things in the entertainment industry have lost a bit of uniqueness, but I don't feel that is is dying. I mean every once and awhile a gem does appear in all the categories of entertainment, sometimes they are just hard to find. Mainstream things do tend to be a bit repetitive, though others don't. I guess it really is just a matter of opinion though

Music is pretty trash.

Movie wise, I'd say so. There is a good comedy now and then, but other genres (like Horror) are just filled with garbage.

TV? no. I mean sure there is a lot of crap on TV for the basic people, but I'm talking about good shows like Game of Thrones and Dexter.

Gaming wise, again I'd say so. Consoles are trash, causing lower quality games which also limits PC, paid exclusives, stripped content, DLCs before a game is even released, being lied to, etc.

We seem to have quite a few good things to go back to if nothing amazing is coming out at the moment, and I'm not fully convinced we're out of new things to enjoy now. Even assuming nothing I produced as examples of "good" works from today were accepted by anyone as such, I could still list lots of works and authors/painters/composers/performers/orators/illustrators/songwriters from the past. The point of doing so would be this: there's enough out there to sate even the most ravenous of cultural appetites even if humanity never puts one more brilliant word or bar of music to paper, if not one more skilled performer ever takes the stage, and if philosophical thought advances not another half step. There are enough good works to tide you over until the next big thing. So even if it seems like nothing good's out or coming out now, you've got plenty to work with until things change.

Also with music.
Since we have the wonders & endless possibilities of autotune, almost any song can sound decent now w/o finding people with the talent. Most don't even need actual singing talent to get into a music industry. (Iggy Azalea)
But there are still people who have good singing talent, yet choose to auto-tune their music anyway (example, Ke$ha).
I feel like music now seems to mostly depend on technology, which suxx.

We just like to forget about the bad stuff. Entertainment has been lacking in quality forever.

So as we go to criticize modern entertainment, as it deserves, remember not to lump the good with the bad and above all else...

Recent anime still seems good quality to me. American TV has never been very good quality. But I know what you mean. Music is just awful now, most of it sounding incredibly similar. Not to mention british drama has gone down the toilet since no drama series seems to have an actual ending anymore.

We're also moving away from intelligent viewing and catering to the stupid and brain-dead with all these reality shows. The Voice, America's Got Talent and Britain's Got Talent, X Factor, The Island with Bear Grylls, I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, Big Brother...shows so stupid they make your IQ go down after 5 minutes of watching.

Movies- usually horrible with a couple good ones every once in a while

TV- never watch tv, but I think there are a couple good shows which my friends have recommended

Games- I barely play on consoles anymore because of all the low quality games and repetitive games like call of duty. I do play a couple games on PC like Tera and Hearthstone which I find pretty entertaining, but I don't see many good games being released often

Music- When it comes to listening to music on the radio I have to say I haven't found many songs that I like, however I am a fan of rap and many good albums have been released this year like To Pimp A Butterfly by Kendrick Lamar and B4da$$ by Joey Bada$$. I think a lot of people aren't able to find a lot of the good music these days because of all the media coverage on bad artists like Miley Cyrus and Lil Wayne, but I believe the music industry in still okay right now.

I don't watch TV anymore, but I hear that some reality shows are starting to break down the "This is reality" pretext and include the producers and their decisions in the show. Like literally the subject of the show is being told what will make better TV and they put that in the episode. It's not like anybody was too confused about what reality TV was really like, but how did it devolve so far? It's like they're treating the viewers as bigger and bigger idiots and the viewers are like "that's fine by me, I just want to watch these teen moms be terrible people!"

As for music, I also agree, everything seems to have homogenized to the point where every hit pop song needs electric guitar, rapping, and a dubstep bass drop. Music was already getting extremely homogenous by the late 90s, but I think it's finally jumped the shark. Thankfully it's easier to find music that never made it on the radio than it used to be.

With music, I just go to youtube, pick a band I like, search for it and go to other fans channels to check out bands of a similar style that I most likely never heard of. In some cases all it takes is searching for generic terminology itself to find some good bands such as searching for "power ballads", "hair metal", "hard rock", "j-rock", "j-pop", "visual kei", "vocaloid", etc. Another easy way is go to the youtube channels of the record labels of the bands you like, odds are they have similar bands under contract. It isn't lack of good bands that's the problem today but lack of good publicity that's holding them down. Mainstream radio rarely plays music that's not owned by the biggest labels. Oh and one more good place to look is internet radio station hubs like Shoutcast, Live365, IHeartRadio or Pandora. Just because something isn't top 10 doesn't mean it's bad, just that it hasn't been whored out by the massmarket label machine.

With TV, the unique shows can mostly be found on cable networks these days, not broadcast tv networks.

Good movies are out there, too. You just need to look beyond summer blockbusters.

And for truly special computer and video games keep an eye on places like Kickstarter and Steam's Project Greenlight.

Sometimes I don't even watch the whole movie to know what it is. For example, Scar Face and Planet of the Apes. Since they are so diluted, always in the mouths of discussion, the plots I conjure can no longer be an assumption of mine. Plus, I don't like monkeys. Including curious George.

Realistically I only like Marvel and DC's current movies. Everything else I like is not of these borders.

For television, movies or books I think that the problem is basically characters. They are often one dimensional. You can make a story out of anything as long as you give me a reason to give a crap about the MC's. Give them depth and a reason to be doing what they are doing! Give them conflicting feelings for crying out loud! And to do that It may not be original all of the time, but it is usually memorable.

With music, you can just tell when someone did not put their heart and soul into a piece or their anger and resentment, confusion and dismay. It's just commercial crap, I can't listen to a lot of music without feeling either irrationally angry or heavily depressed (not because the music moved me but because it does absolutely nothing) This is why I love Bjork, I may not always like her songs, but she is constantly looking for something new to do, she has a healthy passion, I respect her because of this. Just listen to Chopin or neutral milk hotel and notice the passion that goes into their work.

So, when I find something new that is interesting and worth while to watch or listen to or read, I am grateful. There are people out there that are creating and not able to get their work mainstream, you just have to do a little digging.

I wouldn't say it's dying... Quality just seems to be more spaced out between projects now.

Music - yes, the radio stuff they have on these days are all the same: somewhat catchy beat, either love or really offensive lyrics, and artists you shouldn't look up to. I tend to stay away from that stuff, all of the indie music is good for me

Movies - i would say no, i'm not the biggest when it comes to movies, but i'm starting to like them more and more. maybe with new cgi stuff being placed into higher budgeted productions

TV - YES, because i don't watch tv anymore and everything seems like its already been done. give it 10 more years and tv will be completely obsolete

Video games - yes and no. yes because every year games are just getting refurbished and put out to the public for full price (im looking at you call of duty ). and no because there are still games that are amazing and that I enjoy alot.

I've never been a fan of reality TV so I don't watch it, but it annoys me how many reality shows there are now that are basically the same format. How many shows do we need where people come on and try and sing? How many shows do we need where we film people who are poor, or have loads of kids or have some sort of problem, just so people can laugh and go "ha ha! look at them! they're not normal!"

The electric guitars and the rapping annoy me too. I tend to avoid chart music, but I'm able to find decent music on youtube. A lot of the songs I like most people have never heard of.

I believe its over abundance of stimuli that we can get in an instance that's making it harder and harder to appreciate the value of whats being produced.
