But I agree, most american adaptations of anime/manga suck, but it doesn't mean they should be banned lol.

Personally, I would say that the actor's ethnicity shouldn't matter. But in the case of most Hollywood movies, they tend to make the the majority of main characters white. It makes me wonder why Hollywood movie protagonists can't have a bit more diversity among them. America in and of itself is a very diverse country, while American movies are, for the most part, whitewashed.

I'm still upset about the Godzilla movie. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Godzilla supposed to be a Japanese monster? Heck, they even have Japanese characters in the background of the movie's title card, yet it takes place somewhere in America...

America is a diverse country, but that doesn't exactly mean the actor pool is very diverse.

Getting off the point, why is it that many comic book film adaptations are so successful? Is it really a matter of actor's ethnicity or American-ization of characters? No, I simply think it's just because they don't have the fanbase in America to give the proper funding for these projects.

Think of it in reverse: If Japan adapted something originally from the US, would you blame them for localizing it?

I wouldn't.

I would like to see Ryan Gosling as Tatsuya in an Americanized version of Mahouka.

I'd rather see him do more work with Nicolas Winding Refn, Only God Forgives wasn't perfect but it was pretty damn interesting to watch.

Another thing to keep in mind is that, just like in dubs, the original creators would need to approve of the changes and if there's a casting choice or anything they don't like, they can vitto it.

In other words, OP, if you have to blame localization choices, take your complaints to Japan.

It'd actually be a lot different, you're not just changing the voice track in this case you're buying the creative rights to the property at which point you can pretty much do whatever you please unless there are limiting stipulations in the contract.

Many films are made without any input from the original creator or copyright holders.

True. Thanks for correcting me on that.

This is why I would love for more ANIME series that won't happen since anime is now a business.
