It is made by the same makers. Though, I am finding more of a Shenmue Concept, however surprisingly, the game design itself feels like Dead Rising 2 (somehow)-- minus the zombies. (Lol Unless you play the spin-off Dead Souls)

So, sort of yes. The city feel and mini-games and such. But the interactive qte story of Shenmue (which is basically all of Shenmue) would be easier found in Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy).

But, please, do get into Yakuza. Either start on 1 and move up if you can.

If you can't, then definitely start on 3. The plot of 3 is so sweet yet so exciting.
Just understand, only the first one has English Audio. The rest do not, because of authenticity, I believe.

I won't find the audio an issue. I'll check it out, thanks!

They only went with English audio in the first one to appeal to the Western market. It was kind of unnecessary and it sounded pretty bad too.

3 is a good entry point for those who can't play the first two. If you can read Japanese, get the 1&2 HD Edition. Don't ever start with Dead Souls. DS is only fun if you're really into the series.

Uragiri might take around 200 hours to finish Yakuza 4 with the way he plays. The character specific side quests are pretty long.

I've played the third, fourth, and Dead Souls, so I guess you can call me a fan . I hope Sega could bring the first two games to PS3 or remake them. Though, what I really want is the fifth one here in the states.

I heard that the HD edition is a Wii U exclusive and even if you can get your hands on one, the Wii U is region-locked.

I just started Yakuza 4, I have an item called Gion Bell. Is this a default item to start with in the game or not?
Everyone is saying I should only have it with a Kenzan! Save. But, I don't even know what Kenzan! is.
Can anyone explain this for me about why I have this seamingly Cheat Item?

To clarify, in case someone was curious, Yakuza 3 took me 109hr 39min.

Still had around ten substories incomplete too. May need to consult online help for those and play Premium Adventure one day. But, for now, I'm playing Yakuza 4. Currently on Part 1 Chapter 2. 9hr 08min.

Ryu ga Gotoku Kenzan! is a spin-off title that's set in the Edo period. It was a way for them to test out what they can do on the PS3 before making a real sequel to Ryu ga Gotoku 2. They did the same on PS4 with Ryu ga Gotoku Ishin.

Kenzan was never released in the west so Sega decided to add it along with the others as a bonus for having a Yakuza 3 save.
