I have one, and I like it very much. Since I have Amazon Prime, there are some videos I'm watching, altho I feel Amazon's video library is a bit weak for my tastes, but I buy a lot of stuff from Amazon so their video library is not my motivation. I've side-loaded the Crunchyroll app on it, so I can use it on my TV. I also purchased the Plex app (99 cents) so I can watch DVDs and other stuff. Haven't played games on it. My 3DS is more than suitable for my gaming needs.

yngvarr you could put the crunchyroll plex plugin on the fireTV to get proper 1080p and stuff on it and all that kinda stuff. It's not an official channel but it is easy to load up and all and is a bit nicer than side loading it. Also I am somewhat in agreement on the video library though you can rent a good deal of stuff. My own setup is a fireTV + Chromecast to basically sort out the crap that the fireTV doesn't have well supported.

I would recommend the NVIDIA shield tablet. It is an Android tablet which runs games that are only ported to Android on this tablet (f.ex. Half Life 2, Portal, Trine). It has a controller which is good for use with Android and the NVIDIA interfaces. Also the tablet supports a console mode which allows you to connect the shield to a TV and then play games or videos on your TV. So in order to watch your favourite Crunchyroll videos you are using the official app.
Also you can stream your games from your gaming machine to the shield tablet if you got a NVIDIA graphics card. That means that you can play f.ex. Portal 2 with your controller on your TV like that.

bought it for my mother for Xmas. It allows her to stream netflix just fine, but the internet speeds in my area are shit, (and becoming increasingly more aware of this as more sites try to push ultra high def), and other than netflix streaming has been stuttering and general crap compared to other similar items.

As an Amazon Prime customer, I love the Fire TV, loads of TV shows and movies to watch, all my music purchased (on CD) through Amazon already available to stream automatically, link to my Spotify account for the rest of my music, link to Plex to stream all my ripped DVDs/Blurays, a load of cloud storage for photos etc, it's just great :-)

Only 2 things missing in my opinion:

1) Native Crunchyroll app - please get this done Crunchyroll people...

2) Steam games streaming app - this would make life epic...
